My hair is fine, curly, and long.

The bristles have to be able to reach your scalp, and massage it and distribute the oils throughout your hair.

I've been using this brush for 20 years and it still functions as good as new.

This is a review for a large Mason Pearson brush made of eight rings mixed boar bristle and nylon. The longer bristles are nylon and the shorter ones are boar bristle. It is a beautiful heirloom brush worth every penny of the incredibly high price.

All of the larger Mason Pearson brushes, including this one, come with a cleaning brush, so that you can easily clean loose hairs out of your brush.

There are two things you need to know when you're ready to buy a Mason Pearson brush of any sort. One is the size: full-size (the largest size), handy (medium sized), or pocket (the smallest size). This is important not so much because of where the brush will be kept (say, in your handbag), but because of the bristle length of the various sizes. The smaller sizes have shorter bristles. The bristles have to be able to reach your scalp, and massage it and distribute the oils throughout your hair. If you want a small brush but you have thick or long hair, you'd do better with a larger size.

The other consideration is the bristle type. Do you want a mixed bristle brush like this one that is part boar bristle and part nylon? What is most comfortable and performs the best with your hair. This mixed bristle brush will work well for you if your hair is fine to normal and not too long or too thick. Otherwise, you'll need to go with the Detangler because the bristles are stiffer and can reach down through all of your hair to the scalp; the Detangler is the only Mason Pearson brush that can reach the scalp of extremely thick hair. Mason Pearson also makes an All Boar Bristle Brush for finer or shorter hair but I have never tried it.

So, this mixed bristle brush is for normal, finer, and shorter hair.

I purchased a M-P mixed bristle brush 35 years ago, and I still use it to this day. I wish I had taken better care of it. Over the years it's been dropped & cracked, then superglued. Now it has a little piece that's broken out next to the original crack. But the brush part is still fine. No other brush, not even the more expensive imitations, are the same. The greatest experience is if you can get someone else to brush your hair with it. It really massages your scalp and makes the hair shiny. I have had it through long, medium, short, straight, and curly hairstyles. It is the perfect brush.

I can recommend it, even at this price, as you will not have to buy another brush for many decades. If you take care of it, it might even last you forever. Be sure to get the brush recommended for your hair type. Don't try to save money and get the pocket model if you have long/thick hair. The bristles, which are shorter on the pocket version, won't reach your scalp. It makes a wonderful gift!

I bought this from R & S Factors via amazon. According to the Amazon specifications this brush is for long, normal to thick hair, which describes my own hair. However, it did not detangle my hair very well--it seemed as if the bristles just weren't long enough or stiff enough. I gave this 2 stars because the brush might be good for someone, but the CUSTOMER SERVICE is pathetic. I have never had a problem returning an item to Amazon or to one of their sellers in the past, thus expected the seller to take this item back. Especially at a price of $99!

Instead, R & S Factors says I have to return the brush to London at my expense and then, "we shall make a full refund back to you after deducting a 50% restocking charge." A full refund?!? Huh?

So far as I'm concerned, I won't even look at another Mason Pearson product again and R & S Factors sucks.

I know this brush is expensive but I think it is worth the cost. I have to hide it from the rest of my family. It is able to get thru knots in both fine and thick hair.

Ok... You may be thinking.. WTF!? 120 bucks for a Brush?! Give me a break!
Ok I said the same thing too.. I wondered why would anyone in the right mind would buy such an expensive brush!
Well, I fell into the trap as well lol..
Im a college student and obviously dont make much money. I had my eye on this brush for about 2 yrs now. Ive have long hair.. It used to be VERY thick.. through stress it has fallen out and is not as thick as it used to be. Nonetheless, I figured this would be a good investment since I had read that ppl had these brushes for 25+ yrs..
I bought my brush and was very pleased. I didnt think It would make a difference.. but it does. It makes my hair feel soft and for some odd reason even makes it look kinda shiny.. ( not like pantene pro-V shiny) but a good natural shine.
I have never dyed my hair or anything with chemicals and my hair still was frizzy, dull and a bit dry..
I bought the Large nylon/ boar bristle brush and I detangle and brush my hair much faster and it feels really nice.
If you can save up a bit of money it definetly is a nice brush to have.
I wish It would have come in a nice case or box ( it came in a regular Mason Pearson cardboard box)

...it was so worth the price. I have long, curly hair that breaks and snarls easily. This brush is, in a word, wonderful. It doesn't tug at my hair, it feels nice on my scalp and it makes my hair shiny. I have easily spent more than $200 in an attempt to find a decent brush that doesn't hurt when I use it and, at the same time, doesn't snap in two after only a month of use. I am so glad I made the splurge with my Mason Pearson brush!
