4.0 out of 5 stars Setting the record straight
Some other reviewers give this book low ratings, because it doesn't coincide with what they choose to believe. It doesn't make the book any worse! (Or any less true). Now that is out of the way, let's review the book.

I thought I was really buying something and ended up being junk. This writer doesn't know a thing about symbols and she's writing from a Christian point of view and fails to realize that christianity has multiple of pagan symbols in which one is the cross, but she doesn't mention not one of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Setting the record straight, August 2, 2008
This review is from: Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated (Paperback)
Some other reviewers give this book low ratings, because it doesn't coincide with what they choose to believe. It doesn't make the book any worse! (Or any less true). Now that is out of the way, let's review the book.
For your money, you get hundreds and hundreds of pages crammed full of just what it says: symbols. From the "Christian" Cross to the peace sign, and just about everything in between. This is where it gets interesting, because many of these symbols originated in ways we wouldn't have imagined.

And this is where the book becomes valuable, because the text is well researched and highly informative. And passionately relayed. Cathy Burns means business, and delivers abundantly. She doesn't twist the truth and she remains unbiased.

On the other hand, the editors could have done something about the layout and design of the book. It could have been packaged much better. The layout really is pathetic. And the book could do with an update, as the topic is current and relevant, but also very dynamic.

I always used to think the "Christian" cross came from the cross that Christ was crucified on. Boy, was I wrong. Bet you are thinking now that yes, if I thought that, I probably also thought that the star of David came from David. And that the sign of Islam had something to do with the crescent moon and sun. Guilty as charged. Wow! What an interesting book!

5.0 out of 5 stars masonic and occult symbols illustrated, August 1, 2001
This review is from: Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated (Paperback)
The text was an extremely useful reference to determine what types and symbols I do not agree with having in my home. Nor do I wish to wear symbols where the use of them would be gravely inconsistant with my beliefs. The auther outlines the meaning and significance of symbols which I would not have been able to decipher simply. This is information anyone concerned about their beliefs being purely represented would be entitled to understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, October 15, 2011

Greatly researched information. Alot of which I already knew, but alot I didn't, I cross referenced for confirmation, and its right on the money. Alot of others would have you believe its just garbage, and reaching, but trust me its far from it. People will do and say anything to hide the truth from you, trust me, if this stuff wasn't true a few masons and eastern stars I have ran into lately and saw me reading it, wouldn't have questioned me about why I was reading this book. Great info!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK FOR ANY CHRISTIAN TO WITNESS WITH..., October 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated (Paperback)
A good book for any Christian to have in their library. Cathy Burns did a great job researching this out. PEOPLE WAKE UP SYMBOLS EVERYWHERE AND SHOULDN'T BE IGNORED! For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Good informative book for those who knows about history, customs, occults; for those, who understands what is behind all of this. Everybody else would, probably just give it one star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Undeniable truths revealed., November 9, 2004
This review is from: Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated (Paperback)
This book is highly researched and illustrated. If seeing is believing, you can't help but see for yourself the undeniable reseach the author has compiled. This book is not another quack conspiracy book, see for yourself, full of illustrations that drives the hard truth home and sears the conscience. The book is easy reading and the illustrations are powerful in backing up the authors understanding of symbolism. Not doubt a superb book for those seeking wisdom. Dr. Burns give a Christian perspective in the hidden inner meanings of occult symbols, symbols which the uninitiated and profane people are not suppose to know. She demonstrates from occult sources the hidden meanings in a very easily understandable way. She also discusses common superstitions of the occult. It is a thick book, full of illustrations, well worth the purchase. Forget the Da Vinci Code stuff, that's for rookies, get a Christian scholar's perspective.

If your are a conscience person seeking true knowledge this book is not for you, but if you're spiritually blind this book is perfect for you. All of you who gave this book a positive rating be warned if you see any of these symbols don't judge them by this book. You'll be passing false judgment.
It was written by a Christian for Christians all others leave it alone.
It far from facts.

This review is from: Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated (Paperback)
This book seems to be very biased against the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. I had expected some enlightend insite into the origianl and current meanings of symbols we see on many things. Instead I purchased a book that goes to great length to show you how any symbol except the cross of Christ's passion is somehow connected to the Devil and/or wicked ways. I wish that I had known that this was just a book to place more hate on things other are ignorant of.

I grew up with Great Grandfathers, Grandfathers Fathers, Uncles, and cousins with memebership to the Masonic Lodge. The Masons and their quest for love of God is built by steps called degrees. The final degree of Shriner has produced loving caring men who have built hospitals that are free to All children who are burn victims or crippled. I also have several female ralates that are in the Eastern Star. All of them beleive in the one God and that his son Jesus was sent to be our savior. They live or lived their lives under the most import of the Golden rules. Love and Worship only the one God, and treat others as you would have yourself treated. Each of my relatives have or had God's love in their heart and shared it with their thoughts and deeds to others in this world. Being a Christian is not how many times a week you go to church, but how you keep God and Jesus in your life.

They only good thing about this book, is it's reminding me of how small minded some people are and that God and Jesus live in my heart. As Saint Thomas Aquinas said, "A thing is not just because God wills it; but God wills it because it is just."
