This review is from: Masquerade Tarot (Cards)
The Masquerade Tarot is an all black-and-white deck with touches of red here and there. I find it quirky and unique in the interpretations it gives to situations. I own many decks, and sometimes read for the public, but I've never taken this deck on an outing.
When I first got the deck, I read for a close friend. The black and white format didn't appeal to her, and she thought many of the characters looked macabre (go figure!) She couldn't see why I was getting what I did from the deck and was unreceptive to the reading. This was unusual for her. She's always been my best deck reviewer, and often will examine every card in the deck, oohing and ahhing over the cards that appeal to her. I consider her very broadminded. Yet with this deck she went cold.
As I worked privately with the deck, I came to see that rather cold, clinical rendering of meanings. But for me, it was quite like receiving the terse, if expert, advice of a surgeon. It cut to the chase, didn't coddle, portrayed scenarios in literal AND figurative black and white, with no gray areas. It was all yes and no, with none of the maybes. There are times when this is refreshing, and other times when it's oppressive. I've known and worked with people who are like this and gotten along with them, so perhaps this is why the Masquerade works for me. Whatever one may decide about the deck, it won't be an ambiguous decision. You'll either find it interesting or not, though it could make you see red if you feel you spent too much on it for the return value. It would be a nice addition for those who collect and trade decks.
