5.0 out of 5 stars Austen is an awesome writer!, March 31, 2009

This review is from: Masquerade (Ultima: The Technocrat War, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to admit that I am a bit hard on books.. if I dont like them, I stop someplace right in the first chapter. Well, I read all of Mr Andrews books for the Ultima series and loved them... his writing is fun, the depth to the universe he weaves is perfect and it made me want to go diving into the world that is Ultima.

I had the pleasure of meeting the author and talking with him at length a few years ago and he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He is well spoken, well read and I really hope he comes out with more books in either this series or others. His work is the type of work that I like to follow and I hope to be following it for years to come.

Awesome work!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Austen Andrews does it again, May 15, 2003
This review is from: Masquerade (Ultima: The Technocrat War, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
The second book in Austen Andrews The Technocrat War trilogy. The same comments I made for the first apply here. Fantastic dialogue, likeable characters, engaging story.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for the same reason as the first book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like music, Austen scores!, March 25, 2002

This review is from: Masquerade (Ultima: The Technocrat War, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
The sequel is no dissapointment to the first. The characters come alive because Austen paints such real scenarios for them and situations that make the reader believe and even feel for the them.

What is especially beautiful is Austen's power and control over the English language. He breathes freshness and simplicity into the text of the story with the use of his words.

The tension between Montenegro's love for Raveka, conflicting with her loyalty to the Technocrats, layers the plot and questions Montenegro's own loyalty to his old friend Thulann who is in search of Raveka. The decision on whether or not to betray hangs on a very thin line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everbody, January 11, 2002

This review is from: Masquerade (Ultima: The Technocrat War, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read the first book in this series and was pleasantly surprised . Andrews has managed to write a sequel that continues his previous story. The book can be read without reading the first, but I would recommend picking up the first novel to enhance the experience of the second.
"Masquerade" begins two years after the end of the first novel. The knight Montenegro has been expelled from Jukan lands for purely political reasons; this brings him in direct conflict once again with Thulan the Way Master. If you enjoy science fiction and fantasy, this book has enough of everything to satisfy devotees of both genre's, plus there is plenty of martial arts action, intrigue and chivalry.
I had a wonderful time reading this, and await the third (and hopefully not final)book in the series.
