Buy last years edition at 98% off... ISBN# 0073378828

There is no reason this textbook needs to be republished every year. This is pure GREED by the publisher and authors. There is very little, to no new information in the new edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best media law sources out there January 25, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I've just finished writing a paper for my Advanced Placement Journalism class about freedom of speech and obscenity over the radio. This book was one of my best sources. It portrayed Supreme Court cases and laws passed by Congress in great depth and detail and managed to write it all in a language most Americans will understand. I plan to use this book for every essay I can.

5.0 out of 5 stars journalism February 27, 2011

I purchased this text for a university course I am enrolled in. My review is based upon the first 4 chapters which I have read thus far. From those chapters and the ones I have generally perused in anticipation, I find this book very suitable for the course--it provides a concise view of the American legal system, the First Amendment, libel, privacy, copyright laws and much more.

The book is informative and covered my class cirricula. The problem occered when the instructor assigned chapters 7, 8, and 9. Halfway through chapter 8 I saw a page was coming out of the book, it was page 290. In the last week three more pages have separated from the binding. The binding is breaking down and pages are detaching. The book is great, but the construction is inadequate, especially for the price.
I have been buying my textbooks from Amazon since July of 2009 when I began my degree programs and have never had this issue with paperback/soft cover books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mass Media Law February 10, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I choose this rating because the book is good. What I like about the book is that this book is current and comprehensive, market-leading textbook addresses the most relevant and important aspects of mass media law in the United States, stretching from the history and adoption of the First Amendment to the most recent judicial opinions, statutory enactments, and regulatory controversies affecting speech across the print, broadcast, cable and Internet media. What I dislike about the book is that it had a lot of pages to read. I would recommend this book to other people.

This text book was basically what I expected; dense and a bit on the dry side. I did not really expect more from it, but hey, somebody spent years of their life putting this together, so I will say five stars!

This doesn't read like a dry, boring textbook. The content is very insightful and easy to understand without having to re-read sections or chapters multiple times.
