5.0 out of 5 stars Best Neuro handbook
This thin handbook is as indispensible as your neurology tools during residency training. It packs a lot of information in a tiny space and covers many topics. It does not have references or prognostic stats, but it will help you in DDx, basic management issues, or just simply act as a reminder when you can't quite remember details about something. I was pleasantly...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the Mass General Medicine Handbook
I got this book hoping for the same quality as the Mass General Medicine Handbook (the red one, Sabatine) but have been very disappointed. The Neuro handbook is not nearly as helpful as the Medicine handbook. It is disorganized, so it is very difficult to find the information you are looking for. It is incomplete; entire classes of disease are missing and even in the...

I was pleasantly surprised at how much info is in this book. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING, January 22, 2005
UNDOUBTEDLY ONE OF THE BEST 'RESIDENT FRIENDLY' NEUROLOGY BOOKS OF ALL TIME. BUY IT TODAY IF YOU DONT HAVE IT YET. USEFUL FOR WARD ROUNDS. OTHER USEFUL BOOKS / SOFTWARE I FOUND INCLUDE THE SOFTWARE NEUROLOGY TUTOR 1.01 WHICH I DOWNLOADED FROM www.peakdoctor.org AND ADAMS AND VICTOR (which you can find on amazon.com)

5.0 out of 5 stars Changed my life, October 25, 2000
By A Customer
No other neurology handbook packs as much useful information so succinctly. I wouldn't be without it on the wards. Lots of imaging coverage. It also has relevant coverage of psychiatry, medicine, and neurosurgery.

First, a disclosure. I know and respect Dr. Flaherty.
I agree completely with the prior reviewers. This book aims at being an accessible, authoritative reference for trainees. It definitely achieves and even surpasses those aims. It is useful for non-neurologists as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishing help, June 26, 2000

It is an excellent and very practical book about what we do every day, reminding us quickly of all the steps to have the best results for our patients. I highly recommend this book to medical students, internists and neurologists.

If you're to own a pocket handbook, this one and the peripheral nerve book are the ones to have handy. It's high yield information when you just need to look up a quick thing when you're seeing a patient.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mass Gen Neuro, September 29, 2008
This review is from: The Massachusetts General Hospital Handbook of Neurology (Paperback)
This is an excellent pocket resource for student neurologists. Outline format is succinct, clearly written and tables/treatment algorithms are very helpful. Some other, more lengthy, text would be a better resource for learning about disease topics at length, but this is excellent for formulating a DDx and treatment plan while on the wards.

ok, all things harvard or MGH are not great but this book on a Neurology Service leaves all competition in the dust. it's easy to read and understand and bookmark important section for quick reference. if you're a medical student doing a neurology rotation or if you're a resident you can't go wrong. even if you won't use it all the time and sure you can get internet on your iphone but this book should be in your white coat.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the Mass General Medicine Handbook, June 7, 2010
This review is from: The Massachusetts General Hospital Handbook of Neurology (Paperback)
I got this book hoping for the same quality as the Mass General Medicine Handbook (the red one, Sabatine) but have been very disappointed. The Neuro handbook is not nearly as helpful as the Medicine handbook. It is disorganized, so it is very difficult to find the information you are looking for. It is incomplete; entire classes of disease are missing and even in the ones that are included there is often important information missing. Usually the information that is in the book is not the type of information that you would need to reference in the middle of the night as a house officer on call. Unlike the Medicine handbook which is thoroughly referenced with landmark studies, this handbook has very few if any useful references. It's still in my coat pocket, but I have more or less given up trying to get any help out of it because it rarely has what I need. In summary, I haven't found anything better yet, but I guess I'll keep looking.
