Psychiatry Update and Board Review,
By A Customer
This review is from: Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Update and Board Preparation (Paperback)
The best psychiatry review book I have read. Very comprehensive. Reviews all the latest therapeutic techniques, including a good review on psychopharmacology. Also covers Neurology, which is especially important to review when preparing for the boards. I liked the questions which helped me to test what I have learned. I feel well prepared for the boards after reading this book. It has saved me thousands of dollars I might have otherwise spend on a board review course.

Not too impressed,

I got this book because of the good review here, but i must say that i was not impressed by this book at all. The details are too sketchy even for a review book. Some of the stastistics are diffrent from standards such as the ECA and NCS studies. It has great potential as book to use as framework and using another book like kaplock/saddock to confirm facts or expand info.

Just took the test!,

The book covers most psychiatry topics well. I found it deficient in neurology; there were a lot of neuro topics on the test (which I took 2 days ago) that simply weren't covered, especially neuroanatomy. There was a lot more basic neuroanatomy than I expected. I think it's a great review book, but you will benefit from spending more time on a different source for neuro review.
1/9/06 and edited to say I passed! Yay! Surprisingly, my neuro score was better than my psych score, which I certainly didn't expect given my feelings about the exam afterwards. I again encourage people to study more neuroanatomy and use a different source than the Mass Gen review for neurology.

The excellent!!! book for part one preparation. It is very concise, comprehensive and easy to follow. You can cover key knowledge in short time. It also has question/answer part, which is extremely helpful. I PASSED my part one.
