I thought 50 cent was supposed to be the leader of G unit,

I gave it 2 stars because it has some pretty good production, but if I were only judging lyrics, this album is a zero. This album is dissapointing at best, no matter how you look at it. If you want a CD with great beats, this CD is definitely above average in its beat production, but doesn't even come close to standing up to 50's first CD or Game's beats, and production is supposed to get better over time. Lyrically, after listening to other younger G Unit members Game and Lloyd Banks recently, it's almost painful to listen to how bad 50's flow is.
On both his singles he says the same phrase "take it to the next level." The CD is full of meaningless phrases like this that only affirm that 50 hasn't taken it "to the next level" lyrically, instead he's fallen off. The line that pisses me off more than any of the other pointless phrases he says is on the song everyone's heard: Candy Shop. He asks "Isn't it ironic how erotic it is to watch her in thongs?" The line offends me not because it degrades women, but just because of how stupid of a rhyme it is and proves fifty may know less about what irony really is than Alanis Morisette. I feel dumber every time I hear it because it doesn't make sense, there's nothing ironic about having 'watching a girl in a thong' be erotic. That's pretty much the norm, fifty. Game made sure his first CD was a classic, he took you on a jouney through the history of the last 15 years of rap music. This CD on the other hand is all recycled garbage useless lyrics that nobody will learn anything from or even rewind a single part to hear it again, because you won't care. His flow is all monosyllabic rhymes, he would be nowhere if he didn't have street cred of being a real gangster. One may think you could at least look forward to the standard Aftermath classic tracks: a couple Nate Dogg tracks, a good Eminem feature, a couple amazing Dre beats. However, all those are missing, the Dre beats are minimal and just OK, no Nate, and Eminem's feature is his worst in a while. The whole song is stuck on this stupid comic book charcacter theme (Gatman and Robin) that Em started with that lame song Superman, which was on his 3rd album when his albums started to suck coincidentally. Em tries way too hard to flow to the melody of the song, and the beat and melody are so repetitive, it sounds really lame and like he's warming up by singing up and down scales as he rhymes, and I am a big Em fan. Anyways, 50 has a couple good lines on the whole album, but he seems to already have Snoop Dogg syndrome (completely out of rhymes so you resort to lame single syllable rhymes like boom, zoom and tomb) by his second album. People keep mentioning Piggy Bank as a highlight, but that song is terrible, don't waste your money downloading it. Songs that you should check out to see which ones you like the most for downloading include the following in order of how much I like (#1 = favorite and so on...): 1. Just a Lil' Bit 2. I'm supposed to Die Tonight 3. God Gave Me Style 4. So Amazing 5. Position of Power 6. Get in my car 7. A Baltimore Love Thing 8. The Ski mask way 9. Ryder music 10. Hate it or Love it Remix ft. Game AND Lloyd Banks 11. Build you up ft. Jamie Foxx 12. In my hood 13. My toy soldier ft. Tony Yayo 14. Disco Inferno 15. Candy Shop

Some of you people out there seem to be surprised by how weak 50's new album is. Let me explain to you all how this works. When 2pac died he had a lot of unreleased music that he recorded. What this tells me is that artists record music that they hold on to and wait till the right time to release. When 50's first album came out he had to bring the goods to build a fan base. As you know most albums have 3 or 4 good songs and the rest is just filler. If an artist put all his good songs on one album, then his next album would be complete garbage (a.k.a. filler). Its all about money/record sales. 50 knows that all of his fans/suckers will run down to Best Buy and grab his latest cd. So he'll give you a few singles to listen to on the radio 45 times a day to get you hyped. Then when his album drops its PAYDAY. You think he would put some more hot tracks out for the fans who MADE him a millionaire, but no. We have to wait till his next cd for 3 or 4 more good songs. I used to be a fan/sucker too. But I haven't bought a rap cd in 3 years because of this BS. Just download the songs you like best and save your money so that you can waste it on a crappy movie like Be Cool. CLASS DISMISSED

Yo, 50 Cent has half the sense of a Young Buck, a dollar and male deer. Would someone please shine light in the eyes of all these G-unit, Garbage Unit dudes and show them for what they really are, a bunch of fake, half a** rap charlatans. 50 wouldn't be so bad if he were consistently garbage but the fact that he actually shines when he wants to is what makes his music an insult to one's intelligence. The other 50% of the time he is dumbing down the music Jay-Z style just to get a buck. I mean, come on now when your living in the 'burbs of Connecticut, eating massive amounts of swordfish, drinking only Spring water and hosting the local high school prom, where's the logic or credibility of making a song like Ski-mask way? Yo, it would actually seem more logical economically speaking if someone rolled up on 50 Cent and were like "that G-Unit pendant's nice, is this what you bought for me." Dag yo, what's up with the synthetic gangster imagery when 50 Cent if he were truly a "thugged out gansta", he'd actually consent to housing the high school prom off gate, then rob all the decked out graduates-to be and make off with all the prized pearls and jewels of the wanna be prom kings and queens.
Yo 50 is fake as the lead in pencils, just graphite, and so 50 Cent is merely graphic, yet totally without any substantiating reason or method to the madness behind the outrageous exploits he presumes will sell forever. My point of speaking of his insult to the intelligentsia of the masses of consumers is when he actually drops garbage all over an album and then produces what has to be a constipated gem in the form of "Baltimore Love Thing". Yo, that jawnt alone is worth a single but guess what, it won't be because on the DL, 50 Cent's garbage unit rhymes and Drugs are big business. You would have to waste $15 bucks for one good song and a whole album with only one good song isn't even worth 1 star yet 0.0 is not an option according to the rating system. All y'all 50 Cent fan club members who can't wait for the next 50 Cent album or G(Garbage)-Unit crappola, tell 50 to make some more conscientious songs like "Baltimore Love Thing" that frankly and artfully discuss the dangers and hazards of long term drug use, and that song was about heroin in case 50 Cent at his best went over the heads of some of you narfs. Believe it or not Hip Hop will make a return and the music will cease to be a pit stop and dumping ground for money hungry lucres, wrongfully rebellious well offs, and perverts who can't get enough of porn-pop and half-nude to nude nubians shaking their a**es without discretion, because they have adult video stores for that. Do what you want at home, but the airwaves should be safe for younger kids, they can listen to something like "Baltimore Love Thing" but not "Candy Shop". Sure parents should raise their children but the radio you shouldn't have to deny your kids, especially young girls and daughters. 50 Cent's music should imbue a little hope, you know. How does that song go, oh yeah, "Just A Lil Bit" of hope you know. Do it for the kids 50, the kids, the kids, the kids. 50 Cent's music is strictly for suburbanite daydreamers trying to rebel against their parents, parents who actually want their kids to succeed in life, rather than proclive to a lifestyle that they were fortunate enough to not have to be born into. As far as those who were born into some rather harsh environments, 50 needs to make some music to provide an alternative to the cycle that they were born in, you know, a little hope. 50 Cent's music should foster a little hope. As far as hope is concerned, we only need "Just A Lil Bit". The hoods are harsh enough without 50 cent standing on the outside looking in, yo check it, Immortal Technique is coming to take all the garbage out to the curb with his LP "Middle Passage" due out this year, check for it and watch the trash fly in the wind. PEACE.

I won't deny that Get Rich Or Die Tryin' was a great album. I mean, it was almost flawless in its execution. I knew "Fiddy" the loose change man couldn't pull it off again. I didn't know the result was going to be this inebriated mess (and unlike ODB, this mess is just... trash). Both Get Rich and The Massacre have similiar topics, but the Massacre lacks two essential things that made Get Rich a classic: Dre beats, and Fifty's charisma. Firstly, Dre made TWO beats on this album! TWO! And they're bad! It seems Dre's saving his beats for Detox... second, on Get Rich, even though everyone knew Fifty wasn't an amazing lyricist, he still captured the listener with his cocky swagger and stunningly arrogant, booming voice. On this CD, Fifty sounds bored, and none of the songs are as catchy because of his carelessness. None of these tracks are anywhere near Get Rich, but let me lay down some of the worst:
1. Gatman and Robbin: WOW. I didn't know Eminem was this bad a producer.... The beat is repetetive, annoying, and is totally lifeless. It sounds like a Soundclick beat... :P And the flow on this... it sounds like half-assed Bone Thugs, and by half-assed I mean more like eighth-assed. 2. Candy Shop: Stupid hook, first of all. Bad rhyming. The beat sounds sort of like Lean Back, which is annoying, and there is really no real rapping throughout the entire song. 3. Piggy Bank: ....I'm speechless. The most hyped up song of the year, and we get less than six bars of disses, and they are terrible. He insults Nas for showing his love to Kelis by tatooing her on his arm, and calls Fat Joe... fat. Pretty original, huh? And the hook... catchy as it may be, it irritates me to no end. Clickity, Clank, Clickity, Clank... The only somewhat good song on here is Ski Mask Way, because of the way Fifty lays out the concept of the song, but mainly because of a great beat. But every other song is mediocre or borderline unlistenable. Do yourself a favor and buy the Documentary instead. I appreciate it now a lot more, however bad it may be; because it can never be as bad as this. By the way... Olivia is Ashanti's (more) evil twin.

The Game's "The Documentary" Kills 50 Cent's "The Massacre",,

The Massacre is a huge disappointment. Get Rich or Die Tryin is way better. The Massacre is no way to follow up a classic. 50 should have never kicked anybody out the group that put out a better CD than him this years. The Documentary is still by far the best Rap Ablum this year. The only good songs on 50's album are "Piggy Bank (Good just because of the hype and beef), Hate It Or Love It Remix (Just Because Game And Buck were on the record). And outta control.
I suggest everyone who wants to buy the album, to buy the collector's edition version of the album, because the video game trailer is way better than the actual album.

I went to MTV.com and listened to the CD. I am very disappointed with the CD. The only reason this is going to sell is because of all of the hype. I am not even going to waist the time it would take to download.

What a bad CD, and I don't mean bad as GOOD! This CD was pushed back a few times, and there's a bootleg CD of unreleased tracks floating around that sound better than this mess! All of the delays & name changes aren't justified after listening to the lame monotone rapping & song recycling that's in full effect here! 50 Cent is over rated, and his 15 minutes are almost up! This CD will sell like hotcakes for a few days, and THEN a TON of USED COPIES WILL appear for the taking! Unlike so many poor souls, I was able to unload my copy and get my money back! I wish everyone good luck in doing the same! In closing, this CD is a Shot Up Buck Toothed HOT MESS! 50, it's ova!

LISTEN UP PEOPLE!!!!!
This entire week you can go to MTV.com and preview the ENTIRE cd on "the Leak". I implore you to do so. This cd is weak AT BEST! The tracks "I'm Supposed To Live Tonight", "Disco Inferno", and "Hate It Or Love It(G Unit Remix)" are the only songs that you might want to hear more than once. I'm not a hater of 50 cent. I believe he's talented artist, but this cd was just a waste of his time and, if you purchase it, your money.

This will sell regardless of how uneven the Massacre is,

Aside from a couple of shining moments, you're crazy if you've ever thought 50 was lyrically that good. His success is mainly due to his style/swagger, stellar beats, and undeniable hooks. Not like I'm trying to take anything away from him, but if you're expecting a whole lot of solid rhymes, let alone ones that don't involve guns & sex, 50 never has nor will be the place to go. He hasn't changed a whole lot in two years, but is he still doing it as good as he has?
"In My Hood" gets the album off to a solid start, it's a typical 50 Cent hood song and has a great beat by C. Styles & Bang Out. Overall it's good, but it's nothing special (although the Saxophone part that closes the track is real nice). "This Is 50" has a pretty grimy beat, but 50's drawl at the end of every line seems all too formulaic, taking a page right out of "Blood Hound" from "Get Rich...". It could easily grow on the listener though. Lyrically 50 copies his previous effort again with "I'm Supposed To Die Tonight" (aka "Many Men" Pt. II). That being said it's one of the better tracks on the album with Eminem's production being the perfect marriage for the 50's subject matter. "Piggy Bank" is Massacre's diss track, where the clunky beat won't really draw you in as much as the venom he spits at Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Shyne, & Nas. To be honest this is not a big winner, the beat's not really that great but the big thing is while he disses these rappers he doesn't really say anything remotely harmful/embarrassing/clever/whatever. All this track is gonna do is make enemies & create some buzz, but he didn't have a single diss line that was memorable at all. This is a soft diss track at best, sorry no memorable "Back Down" on here. Em produces and drops a verse for the great concept track "Gatman & Robbin". Both Mcs fit the quick paced beat quite well, Em's verse in particular will take several listens to break down. Say what you want about the `hit' "Candy Shop", but the Scott Storch beat is simply hypnotizing and will be in the clubs for a long time. The subject matter gets a bit old (it's basically "Magic Stick" Pt. II), but the masses aren't even gonna listen to the lyrics anyway. There is one serious problem you can see from reading the liner notes. While his previous effort was driven by four incredible Dr. Dre cuts, the producer's presence is greatly missed here as he only contributes two tracks. A Dre beat tends to bring out the best in 50, it did on "Get Rich" and the same holds true here. "Outta Control" is another classic shoulda-been Detox track and 50's hook comes off incredibly well, as it matches the high-pitched organs in the background. The strings and thumping bass in the background only add more intensity. While 50's verses aren't nearly as catchy as the hook, they certainly don't take away from this stellar track. For "Get In My Car" Hi-Tek used a slight G-funk sound too it, and accompanies typical 50 pimping rhymes. The hook definitely has the potential to be used by every guy by the end of the summer. Disco D provides the stellar beat for "Ski Mask Way" which sounds like the score from an old Blaxploitation film, with its creative use of an O'Jays sample. This proves to one of the best tracks on here, and 50's Kool G Rap robbin' style rhymes works better than almost any other verse on the album. It's only further complete with the great hook that's doesn't have a hint of radio play in it. "Ski Mask Way" is definitely 50 at his best and most respectable. 50 actually shows some creativity on the concept "A Baltimore Love Thing". While it's not a new concept to compare Drugs with Love, 50 pulls it off quite well (to spell it out for you, he's rapping as if he were heroin). Plus it's such a huge change of pace for him it's almost a shock at first. "Ryder Music", while not bad, just sounds completely uninspired. It's pretty much just lazy filler, and it doesn't even fit the title very well. Dre somehow does not produce "Disco Inferno", instead again it's C. Styles & Bang Out. The beat and 50's hook really make this song. It's already a club hit and you either love it or hate it. Unlike that track, you can tell from the opening seconds that "Just A Lil Bit" is a typical Scott Storch production. 50 kicks some seductive rhymes (all too similar to "Candy Shop") to fit. The final Dre track only makes you want more from the two. "Gunz Come Out", which is your less than typical Dre track, is just that dark hard-thumping gun-talk track that worked so well for "Heat". Slow horns play throughout that sound like a processional march and pounding pianos come in to compliment it. Overall it's another classic Dre & 50 track, but kinda unsatisfying knowing this is the only other spot from Dre. More of the same gun talk, comes from the high energy "My Toy Soldier" that you can't help but compare to "My Buddy" from the G-Unit album. Tony Yayo drops the all to frequent quick verse at the end of the track. "Position of Power" has a pretty nice piano loop, although the hook is not the best. 50's typical lyrics fit nicely with the beat and are slightly more light hearted (more of a hustler song). The album, which was carrying along pretty well, has a lot of faults towards the end. The Scott Storch "Build You Up" has a pretty nice beat, but the Thug Luv type track is defiantly gonna be another love it or hate it track. Jamie Foxx's chorus isn't nearly as memorable as the one for "Slow Jams", it basically could have been sung by any typical R&B singer. "God Gave Me Style" is pretty forgettable, though some might argue his cheesy lyrics here show "depth" or whatever... I'm not buying it. "So Amazing" is SO much like a Ja Rule/Ashanti track it's sick. How could 50 possible put this song after he ripped JA for releasing this same garbage? This track is a huge disappointment, I'm not sure at all what he was thinking (nor how could Dre or Em let him put this out.) If that wasn't bad enough, the "I Don't Need Em" COMPLETELY jacks Ghostface's "Metal Lungies" on the Pretty Toney Album. Did he think that no one would notice?? I cannot believe 50 did this, considering Ghostface's album wasn't even released more than a year ago. This really leaves the album off on a sour note for a real rap fan. Both regular & collector's editions have the 'bonus' track "Hate It Or Love it (Remix)". The original is a great song and both the Game and 50 brought some great lyrics. Here, both 50's verses are the same, the Game's first verse is different (and actually better), the rest of G-Unit adds on a small verse, but they really sound out of place. They don't work well on the track, making this Bonus not very rewarding. Before concluding the review of the album - despite the fact it doesn't cost much more, THE COLLECTORS EDITION IS NOT ANY BETTER. You're better off saving the $5 bucks or so and skipping the nude photos included (which is really the only difference i can see). As good as this album can be at times, it equally falls flat in other areas. The album is just too long (1 hour and 17 min!), especially when it has more than it's fair share of duds. The Massacre would get some serious help if it was a bit more picky with the track selection, in paticular towards the end. Fans can expect the same from 50 lyrically for the most part, which is either good or bad depending on how you look at it. Another slight problem is you almost can't help but compare a lot of the tracks from "Massacre" to 50 or G-Unit's previous work, because they just sound like they fit the same formula all too well. Bottom Line: There's plenty of material on here that is good quality (from 50 Cent standards) and fans will end up loving the album because of this. Despite the fact that there are way too many weak tracks, the strengths will satisfy just as they did on "Get Rich", and "Massacre" will probably go at least 4x Platinum. This album as a whole is merely ok, because the good and bad balance out pretty evenly, but even knowing ahead of time won't stop anybody from picking up "The Massacre".

The truth about the Massacre,
By Marqui (AUS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Massacre (Audio CD)
OK, 50 Cent is getting really cocky. He hates on everyone. Nas, Ja Rule, Ashanti, my man Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Shyne, Kelis, The Game, Jennifer Lopez, Styles P and sometimes even Eminem. Now this isn't a wasted review just to hate but G Unit is wack. I respect Young Buck but he can't rap, Lloyd Banks is worse and he's voice is so annoying. And don't even get me started on Tony Yayo. Olivia is probably a nice enough girl but she cannot sing.
Now on to the Massacre. Don't get me wrong Get Rich Or Die Tryin was a great album, but that was before 50 Cent started hating on everyone thinking he was God. And yo, The Massacre has 22 songs, but all of the songs except track 22, are all 2min to 3min songs. The basis of his songs are like this. Intro/Hook, Verse 1, Hook, Verse 2, Hook. Then to make it seem like the tracks are longer he puts about 40 seconds of instrumental on the end of the song. And the most of the beats arn't even good. There are only about 3 songs on the album that doesn't use this formula. That's pretty cheap. 50 thinks that cuz he da 'best', he can do whatever s&!**# job he wants. And I dunno what Funkmaster Flex was thinkin, cuz Piggybank isn't a real diss track like the media built it up as. It's more of a comedy track. OK now that I've done pointing out what's wrong about this album, let's focus on the positive. The intro is pretty well thought out but he should have cut out the beginning where he makes reference to the 'St Valentines Day Massacre'. For those who don't know, 50 was going to release this album on Valentines Day and call it 'St Valentines Day Massacre'. OK, the best songs on the album are In My Hood, first single Candy Shop, A Baltimore Love Thing, Just A Lil' Bit (his next single), God Gave Me Style & Hate It Or Love It Remix. I'm not exactly sure why Hate It Or Love It Remix is included on the Massacre, because it was originally a song by the Game which you can find on The Games album, 'Documentary'. I think it's kinda cheesy what 50 did because The Game is releasing Hate It Or Love It as a single on May 22. 50 Cent doesn't actually have any new verses; he keeps the one he recorded with Game on the original. Because 50 & Game are now enemies (but they have called a truce), Game has re recorded the Hate It Or Love It Remix and stuck Mary J. Blige on the track. In all, the Massacre sounds pretty rushed and he sticks to the same topic he always does; that is guns, killing, drugs, sex and his hood. The only people buying this album will be 10-12 year old white kids that think 50's cool and the 'best rapper'. Yes of course 50 will outsell everyone and of course this album will be in the top 100 for months and months, but can anyone tell me why he deserves to be???? Peace. |
