5.0 out of 5 stars Growing any business is a challenge November 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a Licensed massage therapist I really appreciate Kathryn Merrow and her candid honesty about growing a massage therapy business. I especially liked the chapter on writing articles and press releases. Sometimes it's very difficult to 'toot your own horn' and many massage therapists run into problems finds new clients to keep a business up and running. She brings out the importance of educating the clientele about the benefits of massage therapy along with many other helpful hints on a successful massage practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars How To Grow Your Massage Business March 16, 2013
By Pamela
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My niece will be finishing massage school soon. We are discussing her business opportunities. The information in this book gave us details of starting and operating a massage business that we never considered. The author goes into great detail of the building blocks for a business and also the downfalls of ownership. (Actually, I believe this information would apply to many businesses - not just massage.) Ms Merrow's knowledge and expertise is vast and explains the right way to start up and proceed with a massage business to avoid failure in a easy to read and uplifting format. This information gives my niece answers to questions she never knew to ask. Ms Merrow's years of experience is an eye openener for the needs of a massage business. I thank her for passing this information to others before time, effort and money are invested. This is sound advice for anyone that is thinking about starting a massage business. Pamela

4.0 out of 5 stars Massage therapists deserve to earn money. Lots of it. January 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having spent 20 years in this industry, owning three businesses employing over a dozen therapists I know how dedicated and giving therapists are. It's also hard work, physically and emotionally, so it's important that if you are running your own massage business that you reap the rewards financially. I saw how so many therapists did not know how to think commercially. I know you might think that you don't do madsage just for the money, that's why you are good at what you do BUT you need to eat! and deserve abundance. Read (and put into action) this book to learn how to keep doing what you love. Massage. Kathryn tells us that only a third of therapists renew their license. Make sure you are in that third! And have the money for the renewal fee!!!! Great resource.

As a person in my own business, I can relate to many topics in this book. The author does a great job of covering many aspects of how to grow a business. From press releases, to television, public speaking, and more, there's enough information to help you market and grow your massage business. I love getting a massage and word of mouth is still a high priority on the list of growing this business. Well done! Definitely recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars SOUND ADVICE FROM LOTS OF EXPERIENCE December 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a business person, I found this to be great advice that could be used in a large variety of customer service industries.

Ms. Merrow's advice comes from providing over 20,000 therapeutic massage sessions since the early 1990s. Among many tips, she advises you to get to know the peers in your profession. She says that putting in the time at social gatherings and professional association functions awards you a wealth of opportunities, respect, and recognition. It also offers you the chance to get to know your competitors and if necessary, provide your clients with a well thought out recommendation should you have a schedule change, a geographic change in your practice, or other examples cited in the book.

This book is FULL of common sense advice but more importantly, advice you may not have thought of. I recommend this book for any practice where you are looking for ways to expand and market your services. Well done!

From overhearing a conversation and offering her services with a ready business card, to offering great customer service. Then, there are all the solid common sense pointers of continuing your education, saving your garlic forays on non-massage days. Excellent book. Well written and formatted. Good solid marketing and common sense advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars FULL OF GREAT ADVICE December 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a health care professional I am always looking for advice from those who have "been there and done that," and did it successfully.

Written by a neuromuscular massage therapist, this writer knows from professional experience what it takes to run a successful massage business. She also knows from her own personal experience as she struggles with her own pain issues how to relate as a client-I found this touch of empathy very relatable as the author knows what clients are looking for.

She explains that clients will reach out to you from a variety of sources such as yellow pages, websites, advertisements, referrals, and client recommendations (to name a few). She points out that self promotion is essential. She suggests many inexpensive ways to "get the word out," about your business.

She explains what it takes to build your business, even if all your schedule allows are "baby steps" to set things in motion. She outlines how to begin networking, what to say to introduce yourself to potential new clients (hint: have those business cards ready).

All suggestions are inexpensive and completely "do-able!"

Throughout the book there are clever quotes and affirmations to encourage you to live the dream of growing a successful business.

Written for the massage therapist just starting out, or the experienced therapist exploring new ideas. This is a thorough, well written book that I whole heartedly recommend!

Be sure to check out her other book: Head Pain Natural Relief

More About the Author

Kathryn Merrow is a Pain Relief Specialist who has provided well over 20,000 manual therapy sessions primarily for people in pain. In addition to all of those clients, she also learned how to correct her own painful conditions--including scoliosis and migraine headaches--and has accumulated a lot of knowledge from geniuses in the field of natural pain relief that she freely shares.

Kathryn says that when she writes she can 'get her hands on' many more people than when she treats one at a time. She writes as she talks, with simple, easy to understand language to help you discover why you hurt and the simple steps to get rid of your pain naturally.

Kathryn says:

"When you understand the real reasons for your pain, you will understand how to get rid of your pain, naturally. Your body follows natural laws as all bodies do. Muscles and soft tissues are the primary and most overlooked causes of physical pain. When your body hurts, there is a reason. Let's get rid of the reason."
