5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended For CMT's and LMT's As Well
I spent about $10K on an excellent massage school and find myself referencing and learning new things from this book. My schools textbooks and style of teaching was very medical & stiff. I found myself talking to my clients in this manner.

Reading about massage in a language for everyone helps me to communicate better with my clients. A client that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
I bought this book to learn about the art of giving a massage...my wife pestered me to no end to give her a massage, and would complain about it when I DID attempt to do it.

This book is useful. It covers the basics of kneading, gliding, etc. For someone with no knowledge about massages it is a good starter. And, it got my wife off my case (for the time...

Another wonderful book by Steve Capellini regarding massage. This one is good especially for the consumer looking for good massages and how to find them, and receive them, and understand massage. There's info in there as well for massage therapists. Steve's got a great attitude and humor.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a good book for, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Massage for Dummies (Paperback)
This is a good book for a Licensed Massage Therapist or student in the LMT program. All others beware of who you massage ans what conditions they have. Some medical conditions should not receive massage because it can prove possible fatal, hence the reason to go to school and be licensed. Its scarey to think people are doing major massage and have had no Anatomy and Physiology classes.

This is small book but still a good way to find out a little bit about massages. It's portable too.

I did not find the whole part about "How to receive a massage" to be useful...anyone can receive a massage and enjoy it, so why write a whole chapter on the subject?

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and easy to use, August 10, 2006
This review is from: Massage for Dummies (Paperback)
I bought this book for my 12-year-old daughter, who is interested in becoming a masseuse. The book has a lot of different techniques, including reflexology, massage for babies and massage for animals. Unfortunately, our cat was not amenable to the techniques described.

She researches each body part and experiments her implemented techniques on (quite willing) family members. The photos, diagrams and explanations are at her level and she very much enjoys it.

I like the Dummies series anyways but I really liked this book. It was easy to read and had a great look on all different kinds of massage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Light on content, full of filler, March 1, 2011

This book covers the basics, but it will make you work to unearth the very rudimentary tips buried underneath dull asides, lame jokes, and torrents of banal information.

I would be more willing to tolerate the author's lame sense of humour if he didn't peddle so much nonsense - the amount of pernicious anti-scientific twaddle in this book makes the author look like a gullible fool (pimping reflexology, acupressure and other inane practices), which makes it so much more difficult to esteem him as an expert.

I read this book out of duty to my girlfriend, who got it for me, but it was painful to get through the first few chapters, which could have been replaced with bullet-points in their entirety.

1.0 out of 5 stars Miniature Edition-- Be careful NO ONE notices that !!!!, March 13, 2007
This review is from: Massage for Dummies (Hardcover)
This product is garbage.
If you look at the picture it says Miniature Edition.
It is NOT the same as the Full Edition of this book by the same name.
it really just went right in the garbage.
it told me NOTHING useful.....
I saw the Full Edition in a book store & that is the one you want...

1.0 out of 5 stars Miniature edition is worthless, November 5, 2006

THIS REVIEW CONCERNS ONLY THE MINIATURE EDITION!!!!!!!

Okay it's partly my own fault for not paying closer attention to the very small picture of the cover that says "Miniature Editions" and ordering this one. However, having read the book in all of 10 minutes or so, it's USELESS. Do not buy it for any reason. Spend the extra 10 bucks for the full version. I knew more about massage before reading it. All this does is let you sound like you have half a clue standing around the watercooler.
