5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gift for New Parents, December 10, 2006
By
This review is from: Massaging Your Baby: The Joy of Touch Thereapy (Paperback)
It is rough being born. We are shoved from a place of warmth and safety into a world that is cold and uncertain. The transition is traumatic. Nurturing massage can help to heal that trauma. Dr. Elaine Schneider's new book, "Massaging Your Baby" reminds new parents of the need for healing touch and how it is done. Her work is grounded in extensive research, yet is an easy read and easy to implement.

This is an important book and a great gift for new parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandparents Are the Softest Touch, January 1, 2011
This review is from: Massaging Your Baby: The Joy of Touch Thereapy (Paperback)

Dr. Elaine Fogel Schneider has written an outstanding book for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of infants and older children. Her writing touched my heart, and inspired me to want to massage my grandchildren so we could bond and form a connection with each other that can last a lifetime.

I was really impressed with the A-B-C's in A_W_E that Dr. Elaine has developed...knowing the alphabet really helped me remember the various strokes that she presented. I really liked her CHEERS and Pillars of Care also, and the TouchTime(R) Songs and Rhymes she created that go along with the various strokes work like magic.

My grandchildren love when grandma comes to visit. They ask me for a back massage or a shoulder massage, and I am glad they do. What a wonderful way to relate. It is just like Dr. Elaine said, "It's never too late to relate!" So even if you haven't started massaging your grandchildren until they are older, like me, Dr. Elaine provides one entire chapter in Massaging Your Baby-The Joy of TouchTime(R) to providing a massage with an older child, and my grandchildren are so glad she did...and so am I!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book!, December 23, 2010
This review is from: Massaging Your Baby: The Joy of Touch Thereapy (Paperback)
Massaging Your Baby: The Joy of Touch Time is a fabulous book by Dr. Elaine Fogel Schneider. I love this quote from page 13 of the book, "Touch cannot be considered an 'add on' or a luxury - something one 'spoils' a child with. Touch is necessary, just like the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the sunshine that nourishes us."

I have come to realize that more and more as I have read through this book. It opened my eyes to so many simple truths and so many awesome little miracles that happen with massage that you don't see.

I began to massage both my little 1 1/2 week old baby girl (Her cord fell off after a couple days. You want to wait to massage infants until the cord is off) and my 2 1/2 year old son as I was reading this book. This book inspired me to start right away and never stop with this special gift we can give to our children each day.

Now, I could go on and on about the awesome tips in this book including: when's the best time to massage, different massage strokes you can use, songs and rhymes you can use and so much more. But, instead, I will say this - I recommend this book to EVERY PARENT.

4.0 out of 5 stars A marvelous book on baby massage, June 18, 2009
This review is from: Massaging Your Baby: The Joy of Touch Thereapy (Paperback)
Dr. Elaine Fogel Schneider has written a marvelous book on baby massage covering every aspect of it, from asking permission to massage for discomforts and from research to your own intuitive feeling. She spends quite a few pages on massaging older children as well, which I really appreciate (why stop massaging when the baby phase is over?) and she talks about the added benefit of incorporating stories, songs and rhymes into the massage.

Although I find this one of the best books on baby massage, I don't recommend it often to parents in my baby massage classes. I always have it with me and show it in class, but recommend other books as first recommendations. Reason? For many parents I feel this book is a bit too extensive. I first recommend books that are shorter. If parents really want to get more into it and read more about it, I recommend this book.

It's an excellent book with great images that show how to do the strokes. A great read for anyone who loves to cover more then just the basics.

This review is from: Massaging Your Baby: The Joy of Touch Thereapy (Paperback)
I have had the pleasure of meeting Doctor Schneider and after talking about the content of the book realized the book is truly worthy and written with good intentions. Touch and intention and intuition are important especially to our little ones. Enjoy the book.
