5.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly good May 5, 2012

I've downloaded the open beta more as a joke than anything else, but I ended up buying the game.

In short, it has very fun combat that's more akin to Amalur and Tabula Rasa than to tab-target games like WoW, the world is very large and without loading screens (much like WoW, which is good), it has a nice story to it and everything just looks beautiful. Most bells and whistles you would expect from a modern MMO are in there - interesting crafting + enchanting, dungeon finder, guilds (but now with a twist, guilds can run for server wide elections and rule a region of the game), a "rift" system.. Only thing missing that's announced for this summer are the PvP battlegrounds.

Give it a try, it will hardly leave you indifferent.

5.0 out of 5 stars TERA is a blast. May 7, 2012
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Collector's Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am loving this game for a few reasons, all listed below.

Just started playing 3 days ago and in that time have a 30 Slayer, 9 Priest, and 8 Warrior (I was sick all weekend on meds, what else can I say?).

I started with the Slayer just because I felt that is the class I would do the best with just to start the game. Its a heavy hitting, highly mobile, but only medium armored melee DPS class. Do not try and tank, or even get in the line of fire with a Slayer. You will take big damage. You have an evade on a small cooldown that lets you get out of the way of harm easily enough though so that is OK. Its a burst DPS class, where you charge your mp to use your advanced abilites. Build plenty so you can chain them together for a nice chunk of damage. Rinse, repeat, and go to town. This does change up when in an instance as you do have to focus more on staying out of the danger zone of being hit. I stayed in the middle of a group of enemies just a little to long yesterday after using my abilities and died pretty quick. A fun, fluid, big DPS class to play IMO.

The priest. I was a little hesitant about starting a priest up just because of how combat might work. Turns out it is quite fun, you get plenty of offensive skills, and while killing things takes a little longer then the Slayer, is very very viable for solo questing. BAMs might be tough to solo, but Ill talk about those later. I havent gone and healed any groups or other people with it yet, so I cannot comment there. Again combat here is very fluid and fun.

The Warrior. I wish I had started with warrior instead of Slayer. Just a blast to play as. Plenty of big skills. Damage skills that when in use reduce damage you take and an evade/aoe combo make this class a joy to solo with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tera Review May 22, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I am an avid MMOer and have played most MMOs out there. TERA is unique in that it's combat system is loads of fun and will definitely be the wave of the future for all MMOs to come. For those companies that don't get on board with this type of combat system will be left behind.

I have to say that I had not even heard of Tera prior to the Open Beta weekend event which is unfortunate as I think the PR is what holds this game back from being a huge hit. I managed to play it for one day and was sold, ordered the same day.

What initially drew me into Tera was the environments. It's the best looking MMO I have ever played. The world looks so good you can't help but be excited about getting to the next zone to see what's in store. I find myself being pleasantly suprised with each new zone and there are lots of zones which are all pretty good size. You'll not find yourself coming up short of content or zones anytime soon. There is so much to see that you can't help but want to stay in some areas because they look so good. I love Cutthroat Harbor. Animations are outstanding and I have found myself laughing out loud, being pleasantly surprised at some of the animations that I experience when fighting an opponent. These little details simply put the game above the rest.

What has made me stay in TERA is the combat system. It's hands down the funnest combat system i've played in an MMO. As one reviewer posted, based on your class you'll find yourself, dodging, blocking, attacking evading and constantly moving to gain better tactical advantage to your strikes. The creatures you fight also have a pretty sweet AI behind them as you'll face some creatures that could have anywhere from 4-10 different attacks or so to throw at you.

A bit of a warning to those thinking I am giving Tera one star - that is NOT the case. I gave the game three out of five stars (check out my review below).
It is simply the score that the terribly lacking DIGITAL Collector's Edition is receiving. In fact, if I could give it zero stars, I would.

All this PC Download CE version does (other than cost a lot more) is give you the following in-game items: a level 20 Regal Frostlion Mount, a level 15 Velik's Bloodstone Necklace, and a level 40 Shakan's Bloodstone Necklace.
You don't get any digital artwork, maps, storybooks, or in game convenience benefits (such as a store bought level one mount). This so called Collector's Edition doesn't even give you any sort of cosmetic gear/pets or exclusive voices/appearances!

What makes this incredibly lacking package a Collector's Edition? En Masse Entertainment, I am asking you directly - why did you label this as such?
Coming from other digital CE's this version is quite disappointing.

The only difference between this digital CE and the regular version of Tera is the higher price tag and three useless items... If you feel that's worth it, by all means go ahead and purchase it (thus encouraging the developer to continue with these kinds of practices).

---------------------- My review of Tera (the base game) is below ----------------------

Tera is an action MMORPG, where auto attacking and tab targeting have been removed in favor of a much more fluid (and interesting) combat system. The game plays very much like your standard action game, and defeating enemies requires dodging, blocking, and being mobile.

Just another Korean MMO :(
I don't know what class you played, but I found my experience changed greatly depending on class. Warrior, which I am, is like a completely different game from Lancer or Sorcerer.

I haven't played any of the games you mentioned, but the combat in Tera to me seems like the bastard child of Demons... Read more
