Product Description
Pinball Ride
Simulates a real pinball machine
Pinball Ride
Accept challenges relevant to the street-racing storyline

Play pinball on your phone or tablet with the same intensity you would if facing the over-stimulating, bell-ringing, illuminating machine itself.

Enter the Universe of Fast Cars and Fast Women

Pull the lever to the right of your screen to unleash your ball into the universe of high-profile, high-risk street racing. Energized music, 3D graphics, and real pinball sound effects set the pace for all-consumed gameplay. Tap the right side of the screen to activate your right paddle, and the left side to activate the left paddle. "Nudge" the table by tilting your phone when things start heating up. There's no simulation for kicking; you shouldn't be kicking pinball machines, anyway.

Accept the Challenges; Earn Rewards; Brag to Friends

Take on multiple challenges relevant to the racing storyline. Race in a friendly duel, or accept a racing challenge against a gang. After it's all said and done, offer a ride to a mini-skirted mistress on her way home from the club. The storyline creates opportunities to earn girl points, business contacts, multi-balls, airbags, bumper upgrades, achievements, and more.

Pinball Ride
Unlock Achievements and share your success on Facebook

In this pinball universe, you can be a lot of things: Skilled Shooter, Lady's Man, Dragster. Become the master of the Nightlife, Car Chase, Tango of Death and more. All you have to do is unlock the achievement to prove it. Ready to unlock the Danger Zone? Complete the Final Duel without missing a ramp and voila, mission accomplished.

Friends let friends get in on the action. With the Facebook integration option, compete with your friends and publish your stories from the game. Send invites via e-mail and have them join the ride.

The app is engaging and fun, sounds are well executed, and customization settings are handy. At 11.6MB, it's great that it automatically moves itself to the SD card, which all good apps should. The number one thing I look for in a pinball app is if the flippers are responsive and easy to control, and they are in Pinball Ride. If not, the game would be essentially unplayable, which is the case in some of the free pinball apps, even though some have multiple tables. Perhaps it's because they have ads, making the table smaller, causing one's thumbs to cover the flipper pathways, and thus hiding the ball's movement. (Motorola Droid)

Test devices:
Samsung Epic, Android 2.2 official
Viewsonic gTablet, Calkulin+Clemsyn 1.5ghz Froyo Combo V6

As far as pinball games go, it's not half bad. It's got some sort of story line going, which I don't entirely understand, but, I don't usually get the ones in the arcades either. The graphics are done up very nicely, the game looking good on both my phone and tablet. While the defaults in top down view, you can switch over to flipper view for a different look at the action. As the story unfolds, full screen(!) cut scenes pop up to tell you what is going on. Thankfully, you can turn that off, or at least reduce them, since it distracts from the action. Performance is almost spot on for both devices as well, with smooth action and mostly responsive flipper control. I say mostly, as there seems to be a bit of lag when there are multiple balls going at the same time. Pinball Ride can be played in both landscape or portrait screen orientation. It locks on to whichever orientation your device is in when you start the app and doesn't let go. Music and sound effects are complete and quality work. Like Pinball Ride's arcade counterparts, it does suffer from the same repetitiveness in the music.

The devs took things a step further by adding leaderboards and achievement tracking. You can create a new account with them if you like, or connect with Facebook, whichever you prefer. Nice feature, but it has some issues. For some reason that I have yet to figure out, when I first fired up Pinball Ride on my gTablet, it already had someone's profile info loaded. Deleting the game data and flushing the cache didn't clear out the old data, and I was unable to switch the account to my name. Rebooting the gTablet seemed to clear it, and I was able to connect, but it appeared to stall out while retrieving my Facebook info. Eventually, it started working right but it kept all the achievements and high score the previous account. Switching over to my phone, I ran into the same Facebook connection stalling issue. Like on the tablet, it magically fixed itself after a while, though it again imported all that old game data from the previous account. Sorry Bobntrout (the previous account name), I didn't mean to steal all your stuff or highjack your account.

When it comes down to it, if it wasn't for the account/connection issues, I would have given Pinball Ride four stars. As a dollar title, it's decent but not great. There are certainly other pinball apps in the same price range that offer more and are of equal or greater quality.

*EDIT* Got in touch with the devs and helped them fix up the connection issue I was having. For what it's worth I was getting responses to emails within an hour and they were always very nice.

I hope you found this review helpful, and if not, feel free to leave comments/questions.

I bought this one a while back on the Android Market, and I love it. It's simple but with plenty of missions to keep you happy. The best was using my PS3 controller wirelessly to play while my tablet was hooked up to the TV... who needs a game console, haha! Also, the music... it gets stuck in my head all the time, and I kinda like it... even found the track on emusic and itunes.
