There are a million light meters, and almost as many styles. They have been around for at least 60 years, and they are still used today by professionals.

I shoot video with DSLRs, and I spent a fair amount of time trying and buying different meters to use for video shoots. This Mastech is BY FAR the best designed and most affordable meter I've ever seen, especially for shooting video.

I use my meter on every shoot, and considering I paid less than $50 new, it was (and is) a steal!
Plus, it's built like a tank, and very accurate.

NOTE: It has a very handy mount for a camera tripod on the back too, so I carry one of those little flip-out tripods to mount and mark locations with it.

I purchased the meter due to its stellar reviews, and just received it. Out of the box it has the following flaw:
When in auto mode and set to foot candles, if you dim the light to a low reading, then bring it back to a significantly higher light environment, the meter goes to OL 'overload' instead of auto-ranging. It does not do this when set to lux. To get out of the OL indication, all I have to do is switch to lux and then back to foot candles, but if I go dim and then bright with the exteriror light, it goes to OL again.

Auto mode should not go into OL or at least not stick there. At this time I can't tell if this is a defect of my individual unit or of the design programming. Right now I'm inclined to believe it's a design problem so those of you who own a recent Mastech MS6612 may be able to duplicate the problem.

I have to fail mine due to this flaw. It is not a matter of hate, but a matter of a correctly working product.

This meter is smaller than a lot of others which makes it very convenient to put in a coat pocket or your tool bag. It has a protective lens cover so your tools wont hurt it. I compared the readings with a much more expensive greenlee and the readings are always very close. I like it.

I haven't used this a lot, but so far it seems very accurate and well made. I am using it to judge ambient lighting for Theater Rooms and Projection Systems. I need to make sure that screen choice and projector brightness are right and this really helps.

This was purchased for a work related research project and it performed flawlessly. Set up and initial operation was easy. The MS6612 is currently being used on a fixed tripod on a public safety research project.

Very accurate. This meter comes in handy to measure any light source. From the new energy saving light bulbs to how strong the light is to charge a solar battery watch.

It is self adjusting which saves time and guess work. Worth the money.

This works great as a on site tool for measuring light levels. It's small, light weight and easy to carry around.
