I use a model like this for home electronics building, troubleshooting, and repair all of the time. Its got a durable hard plastic case so if you drop it you won't be buying a new one. The back light for illumination effect is great and the readout is clear. There is also a great how to manual for beginners if you are not familiar on how to use one, complete with testing point to point scenarios included. Bottom line is bottom line, as you can't beat the price. I think it is the best Multimeter out there for the money. Highly Recommended!

I purchased this meter based purely on price expecting a flimsy feeling but functional meter that I wouldn't mind if it got damaged or fell. Instead, this meter has a nice quality feel, good balance, and enough weight to stay put.

The rubber protective casing adds to the quality feel and the test leads are nice also. The function switch is solid and clearly labeled. With the back lit display there is a lot of value for the price. I can't see how one could go wrong with this choice.

I bought many other types of digital meters, the Fluke is great , but too pricy, this meter gives me all what I need and a back light. Great little meter, highly recommended!

Unfortunately, I found this product substandard, and had to return it, and purchase one of its competitors. The buzzer which sounds to confirm continuity was so faint that it was almost inaudible. I actually checked the battery, as I thought that might be the culprit; it wasn't. The dial used to select the function did not have a substantial "feel" - it made the product feel cheap.

I must say that the people at Northern Tool were pleasant and efficient, and I would not hesitate to purchase from them again. I contacted them regarding the return and also to see whether they had something better for a slightly higher price - but their next model up was considerably more expensive.

One might attribute all of this to the relatively low price of this item (i.e. the "you get what you pay for" maxim). However, the replacement I purchased (Equus 3320 auto-ranging digital multi-meter, also purchased from Amazon) seems to me to be much better quality at a comparable price, and I recommend this item over the one reviewed here.

For the price point that this meter is at, I don't see how you can beat it. I could easly buy five of these for the same price as one of the more expensive brands and not worry about it.

Very good quality and easy function. The rubber "case" is a great additon, as is the lighted back readout. Pop out stand in the back could be a little easier to engage. Only real problem is when you connect the test leads to the meter inputs, they don't fit snug enough thereby causing the meter to "cut out" during use (or not work at all), so I used a probe to "widen the ends of the leads" so that they fit mor snuggly. Seems to have done the trick, as it now works as it should. However, this should not have been overlooked by the Manufacturer. So the problem, in my opinion is in the test leads. I couldn't give five stars as this kind of oversight is simply a lack of quality control. I wrote to the manufacturer (Mastech) but as of this date have not yet received any reply. If the company replies satisfactoriy, I will update my review accordingly.

Same Day Update: After submitting the above review, I had to revise it. I was reading through some of the other reviews and happen to see a reference to the "continuity buzz" feature, which I wasn't even aware of. So I ran a quick check on a bulb, and did not hear anything. So, I will be writing to the Manufacturer again. My "three star" review has now dropped to "two". If I don't get any satisfaction from the Manufacturer, I'm afraid it will be returned and a "zero" review will be issued.

The picture shows a Black Multimeter. I would of gave this a 5* but It arrived in complete yellow. I would recommend this Meter, but don't bank on the color advertised.

The beeper didn't work on the continuity tester, so I sent the product back to Northern Tool. I brought a similarly priced mulitmeter from Radio Shack in it place.

This is my first multi-meter so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems to do what it's supposed to do. The instructions are not for a newbie; I had to go online to find out how to use it to do simple tasks like testing rechargeable batteries. My only complaint is that the jacks that plug into the meter are not tight enough, and they will lose contact if the wires are moved around much. Other than that, I am very happy with this meter.

This is an EXCELLENT Multimeter for the price! The display updates about as fast as any other multimeter and has all the usual goodies: resistance, voltage(up to 600v), Current(up to 10A), a diode checker etc. It also has a continuity check that will beep when to probes complete a circuit with each other, so its good for checking and quickly diagnosing broken circuits. One thing that really stands out about this meter is that it has a back light. Even though you won't find needing it very often, I usually turn it on anyway because it is much easier to read. Excellent product for only $20.
