2.0 out of 5 stars Not Realistic for Test Preparation, August 21, 2004
I scored in the 90th percentile on the ACT and now I prep others for it. This book is very unrealistic in terms of the actual test. Not only are many of the questions excessively difficult, but there are also topics included in the book that you won't even see on the ACT.

If you want to improve your score and find out exactly what you need to know for the test, try Kaplan's book instead. The one with the CD Rom is awesome and the interactive environment is second best to the classroom itself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't trust this book, March 12, 2005
This review is from: Master the ACT Assessment, 2005/e (Arco Master the ACT Assessment) (Paperback)
As a warning, I am basing this review on an earlier edition of this book. Based on the samples and other reviews, I think it is still applicable.

I recommend steering clear of this book. I would very much agree with the other reviewer who said that this book is completely unrealistic. My experience with this group of books was similar - the practice tests in this book were much harder than the actual ACT test and contained question types that the real ACT doesn't even cover. Their test-taking advice was often very generic and sometimes painfully obvious ("get a good night's sleep before the test" type advice). Even the review sections and practice problems weren't very helpful. I doubt that this book helped my score at all; if anything, it probably hurt my performance and made me more nervious than I had to be. I would recommend getting the book that ACT publishes along with one of Kaplan's or Princeton Review's books, which reflect the test much better and have much more specific advice.

If you do buy this book, do not trust it as a good indicator of what you will actually find on the ACT or use it as your only test-prep book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Weird, August 11, 2006

This review is from: Master the ACT Assessment, 2005/e (Arco Master the ACT Assessment) (Paperback)
This book is not even funny. It is hopeless.
I looked at the practice exams in this book
and "tried" to do them... but it's
not even worth it. Don't waste your time
on this book. The questions are weird and
the answers don't even make sense. Also,
the sentences in the English section are
so BADLY written that it's hard to solve the
problems... If you're looking for something
to practice with, this is not your book.
I tried the ACT practice booklet from the
school office and the two do not even
resemble each other. Look for something else.
