We have purchased two of these guns within the past year. We use these guns for about ten minutes at a stretch perhaps once or twice a week, not what I would think of as heavy use. The first one lasted less than 6 months before it lost its ability to generate any heat. The second one just stopped heating last week, which coincidentally was also almost exactly six months after we received it. It seemed to be much better built than other guns we have tried and the built in stand is a handy feature because this gun is fairly heavy, but it seems to lack the sort of durability that would allow me to recommend it. When I called the company that sold us this gun they told me they offer a replacement heating element for $17.00. I ordered two and installed them. Neither lasted even 90 days before failing but when I called to report this I was given the name of a person at Master Appliance who acknowledged they had sold a batch of these guns that had faulty fuses included. THey let me send my two guns in for replacement. We paid for the shipping but they did send us new replacements that have worked so far (two months) much better than the earlier models. I have to give the company some credit for finally spilling the beans on their wiring problem and considering they gave us brand new replacements I would say that they made up for all the hassle and extra cost we had endured in trying to keep their original pair of guns working. I will check in again in a few months and let you know if they keep running.

I have been using these heat guns for years. I just purchased my 3rd one since the late 80's. I abuse the heck out of mine and they still last! I do suggest cooling them off after use, to extend the life I get impatient and do not always do this... probably the only reason I have had to replace them!

"This is a nice heat gun for the money. But be aware... you DO NOT get the case or the nozzle adapters! This item is for the HEAT GUN ONLY! Kind of a false advertisement if you ask me!"

Why, did it used to show the case and adapters with the add? It doesn't now.

Actually I am rating this based on my 30 year old one. I can't speak for this newer model, it may have changed I don't know, but I have a HG-501LJ, which uses the same spare parts, that is about 30 years old and ran strong under heavy abuse until someone in the shop broke off both brush holders. I am trying to decide whether to get it repaired for $45 or or get a new one. I think I will do both, repair the 500-750° model and get a new 750-1000° one.

Update: Early 2013, I sent my old one back to the factory for repair, paid a flat repair fee and they sent me a new one. Quite impressed.

I have had a number of heat guns, many of them with cheap plastic housings but none can compare with this. This has all-metal construction with a heavy-duty motor in it. The adjustable stand is great when you want to set it down for some crafts where you need to hold the item being heated.

Another great thing is that Master Appliance stands behind it and sells most of the parts for it should something wear out or need replacing including the switch and heating element.

The temperature is adjusted by turning the silver louver shown in the picture which adjusts the airflow. It is somewhat noisy but not annoyingly so. If you use heat guns a lot and tend to go through them then this is the one to get. It is industrial grade and made in the USA and should last just about forever.

I have had one of these for years and I just bought another because I am going to use one to blow hot air over my snow blower (and under a tarp) to melt the snow off before putting the blower away in the garage. Without something like this, snow is difficult to clean off the blower and when it does melt in the garage it creates a pool of water in this area, which I use for my shop.

This is a great heat-gun meant to run 8 hours a day, 365 days a year. Been using and
abusing mine for 5 years now and have had no trouble, even the supposedly fragile heating element
has far outlasted the cheesing Chinese plastic case heat-guns!

I've had this heatgun in our shop for several years - works perfectly, no problems. It heats up fast and gets really hot if you need it too. If you're going to use a heatgun often, buy this one and never have the need for another.
