This is a very nice and easy book to read.

Great for reviewing quickly - clean, with good descriptions for most common presentations, best initial test, best confirmatory test, and best treatment options.

I am using this book together with MTB USMLE step 2 CK for the USMLE.

==This review is from a student who is studying for Step 2 with a Step 3 book==
I am a new student to the Mastering Boards Series. I purchased this book because of recommendations that it is good for Step 2. The format is so easy on the eyes, which is nice for those long reads. The book is in color, which makes it nice as well (check out the peds section!). The format for most of the topics are similar to the other review books. What I like about this one is that it talks a lot about "Best initial test vs most specific test, etc" or "best initial treatment vs most effective treatment." A lot of the tips on the side boxes are great as well. In addition, the CCS tips are cool (but I won't be taking that test for a while). I think another great feature of this book is that they present scenarios a lot of cases that people tend to narrow the answers down to 50:50 and would guess wrong. They explain how you should think about the question, which is a great. Overall, the review material is precise and to the point. Conrad Fischer does not waste your time!!! Not a lot of flow charts, if that is your thing. The tables are pretty comparable to any other review book. Overall, I think the material is sufficient for Step 2 and there are a lot of "rare but testable board" points/tips that I have seen on Uworld but not in Step up to step 2 review book, in this book. The one pet peeve that I have with review books is outdated information, and this book definitely worked on updating to the newest guidelines for treatment.

I would definitely recommend it!

After taking the Step 3 this past week, I think this book covers a lot of what you will need to know-I read this entire book and there are a few errors but I challenge you to find a better review book. Combined with UWorld and Kaplan Qbank you will be much better prepared for the exam!

Addition since I received my scores back: I feel that if you know the info in this book combined with the practice from UWorld (with CCS practice) and Qbank you will pass the step 3 without having done any residency which is my case.

I found three errors in the first half-hour of reading. One regarding Multiples of Median when considerin MS-AFP and the other with "Trisomy 18 (Edward's Syndrome)" being incorrectly replaced by "Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome)", both on page 380. Also, the question on the same page is clearly missing crucial information. These MAY the the only errors, but how am I supposed to trust this book now... having found three messed up things in the first 30 minutes of opening the book? What's worse is that it's close to the end of March '13 and Kaplan doesn't have an appropriate errata available.

I used MTB 2 for the CK and it was my main resource. MTB 3 is similar to the CK version except for some added points. MTB 3 with the USMLE World QBank is essential for cracking the Step 3.

Good luck with your prep!

The price on this book is reasonable, but it is riddled with simple errors. For example, on discussion of pheochromocytoma treatment it claims that alpha blockade is necessary to prevent hypotension intraoperatively. There are other errors that I have come across that I would not have expected in a 2nd edition book. The format is decent, but don't expect tons of detail - a reasonable compromise for a review book. Overall, not a wonderful book, but passable for the price.

Very useful, quick and covers almost all that is asked on the exam. Recommend this along with uworld questions as sufficient for all taking exams during residency.
