This is Real Jazz Organ at its Best,
By John Versale (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Master Chops T (Audio CD)
I recently got both of The Tony Monaco Trio CDs. Burnin Grooves and Master Chops T. I grew up listening to Jazz Organ as I live close to Philly. Wow, Tony is the new Organ Man! I especially loved Master Chops T because of the variety. He even played the accordion on a blues track. If you havn't ever purchased a Jazz Organ CD, this one you must. Tony's music has a way of bringing you in smoothly and then hooking you with some pretty awesome stuff."So May it Secretly Begin" blew me away. Its' big sounding with just the trio. Acid Wash has some really cool effects and "Ya Bay Bee" takes you back to the 60's. All I can say is you should get turned on to this trio. Both Burnin' Grooves and Master Chops T are first rate and smokin!

There's No Pork With These Chops,

Tony has done it again. There are so many good cuts on this CD. My favs are ... well, I like em all! Monaco's rendition of Pat Metheny's "So May It Secretly Begin" is masterful. It hard to believe that "White Dude Special" was written when he was only 16. The original on Monaco's website has the same flavor but one can certainly see how advanced Tony's chops have developed. Like the previous reviewer, living close to Philly, I am definitely a B3 fan and Monaco is at the top my list. There's even something from the 70s for middle agers - "Pick Up The Pieces" has a phat bass groove. Buy the CD. You won't be disappointed. I own all of Monaco's CD and can't wait for his next release in September 2002.

Track 2 is Groove Holmes,

Track two in the sample list, white dude, is Groove Holmes, from "On Basie's Bandstand." I guess someone messed up while developing this web page. Regardless, that Groove album is excellent, too, and highly recommended.Of course, Tony is excellent. Local Hammond technician heard him at Cafe 123 here in Nashville, after the 2004 NAMM show... said that Tony brought the organ down to a whisper, and moved him to tears.
