Classic US Power Metal,
By
This review is from: Master Control (Audio CD)
1988's Master Control was the final album from US power metal band Liege Lord. The band continued the uncompromising Judas Priest/Iron Maiden-worshiping power metal sound they started on Freedom's Rise and Burn to My Touch (Reis), this time with new singer Joe Comeau.
While the band's style may not have changed, they still managed to improve with each album, making Master Control their best work (to my ears anyway). It has great thrashing riffs, intricate solos, powerful vocals and a great sense of power and energy. The whole album is solid, but their cover of Rainbow's "Kill the King" is a particular highlight, as are "Eye of the Storm," "Broken Wasteland" and the thrashing title track. Sadly, the band did not survive the 1990's, which was a notoriously difficult time to play this kind of music. Master Control is a great heavy metal album, and should appeal to just about any power metal fan. Those of you who enjoy Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Jag Panzer and Helstar should definitely find Liege Lord right up your alley. Edition Notes: Metal Blade's 1998 reissue of Master Control may not have any bonus material, but does feature stunning digitally remastered sound, which breathes new life into the classic album.
