About the Author
Robert S. de Ropp (1913-1987) was a biochemist and cancer researcher, author of many popular science books, and a leading early explorer of the biology and psychology of consciousness. He was a student during the 1930's and 1940's in England of P.D. Ouspensky and Madame Ouspensky, and later associated with G.I. Gurdjieff, John G. Bennett, Charles Lindbergh, and other cultural leaders (see his autobiography, Warrior's Way). He migrated from the U.K. to the U.S., finally living on Sonoma Mountain in California. He did pioneering research in mind-altering drugs and tranquilizers, and among his best-known books are Drugs and the Mind, Man Against Aging, Church of the Earth, The New Prometheans, Sex Energy, Self-Completion, and The Master Game. Note that every topic he chose, from psychedelic drugs to longevity to sustainable lifestyles later became an important subject for the culture at large and a key area of social change. De Ropp was a true pioneer of consciousnes! s exploration and a forerunner of the spiritual renaissance of the U.S. and Europe in the 1960's and 1970's.

value of self realisation,

De Ropp was involved with the early years of the Gurdjieff-Ouspensky teachings.What life game do you want to play ? This book suggests that there are deeper and more fulfilling options available than the default ones based on money, power or hedonism that education and social conditioning can sometimes provide us with. The master game is a life course involving a systematic attempt to develop self knowledge. Its hazards are not wisely ignored but its rewards are beyond the ordinary also... I have found De Ropp's idea of "Inner Theatre" a great help. Our minds seem to set up miniature virtual ego-work laboratories - one imagines oneself in situations and plays out scenes. To him this is an aid to knowing oneself. I still remember the feeling of grand adventure through seeking deeper awareness this book wafted my way.

I first read The Master Game in the early 1970's. It had a tremendous influence on me at a critical awakening time in my life. I still remember some of the passages and have always credited it with being the first step among many on the road to self realization. I purchased this last copy as an introduction to true consciousness for my daughter. I recommend it to any serious thinkers seeking to take a first step.

Read this when I was 23. It directed me to the most fascinating reading and line of study of my life, one which I still ardently pursue today. As soon as I saw the reference to "Top Cock on Dung Hill" I know I was guilty as charged and set out to reclaim my life. I have now reordered it and rerreading it just to see if the flavor is the same as after my original reading of it, and after having read so much more by so many more similar authors who write about the same topic.
