Long overdue early treasures of a true artist,

This review is from: Master Series (Audio CD)
This CD contains every song from Kim Carnes's 1976 lp, SAILIN' (released on CD only in Brazil) and most songs from her 1975 lp, KIM CARNES (never released on CD).Since there was room, it's a shame this MASTER SERIES didn't include ALL her songs from the KIM CARNES lp. An even greater shame is that there is still no boxed set her complete work (from 1972's REST ON ME to 1991's CHECKIN' OUT THE GHOST). The 2 lps this MASTER SERIES draws from were released while Kim was under contract to Polygram. She later moved to EMI for ST. VINCENT'S COURT (1979) and attained fame in 1981 for "Bette Davis Eyes," released on the MISTAKEN IDENTITY lp. That song established her as a rock star. But this MASTER SERIES shows a very different side to Kim. These early Polygram songs showcase a softer Kim, more country than rock, with a bit of gospel, and what's been called "blue-eyed soul." Some of the songs have a late 1960s/early 1970s flower child/Jesus[-y] sound. Kim had sung with the New Christy Minstrels in the 1960s and the influence is evident on this MASTER SERIES (and also in the song Kim performed on the VANISHING POINT soundtrack (1971) and the SUGAR BEARS lp).
