This book is not per say of lighting. Its about shooting weddings. There are only 5 setups with pretty minor discussion. Rest is just either huge fluff on what light is, or on what to shoot at the wedding. Unfortunately, i already have AWESOME book by Glen Johnson, and some experience behind me belt to listen what to shoot (which is not explained very good either, btw, but rather quickish).
Images in book, on other hand are pretty good. Its pity that some of them repeated from other lighting and wedding instructional books. And about 30% of them i wouldnt even consider to hand out to the client, but send straight to the dust bin. Shooting of groups is pretty much non covered either. And book would get on and on about sort of expensive gear you may want to purchase to light things up. So i will try to re-read it in a week or two, but so far i have that "you got screwed again" feeling, as a kid, who opens X-mas present, but would get like a tie, instead of cool toy train.

Bill Hurter has created another in a long series of wonderful photography books. The book is richly illustrated with images from some of today's premier wedding photographers. Both artificial illumination and the creative use of natural light are explained in great detail. I especially enjoyed the real expressions on the subjects in the photographs. The images did not looked forced. This is an excellent inspirational guide for any wedding photographer.

The "Master Lighting Guide for Wedding Photographers" is an excellence reference book for any wedding or portrait photographer. The book is well laid out and the material is relevant. The book not only gives excellent visual examples (photos), it also explains how the photo was lit in a very easy and understanding way. This is by far the best lighting book I have purchase and I would recommend it to anyone looking to enhance the quality of their photography or just need a refresher guide on the proper way of lighting individuals, couples, or groups.

I have a few of Bill Hurter's books and I can say I have gotten something out of everyone. This book starts out with lighting tips that would be used by both film and digital photographers. Towards the end of the book he talks mainly digital. I didn't buy this book outright but got it when I bought some equipment. I'm not really into wedding photography as I have done a few and hate the stress. There is good info for the portrait photographer in here too. While some of the reviews have compared this to other books, I think you can't assume everyone will have bought this after buying 10 other books. If this is your first book on learning about wedding photography, it will help you a lot. I don't think there is one book on the market that will teach you everything, so expect to get something out of every book you read and you probably will. If it sells one or two pictures, it has paid for the book. Enjoy. Ric.

I always approach this type of book by looking at the images and then reading the details. The images in this book are truly inspirational and of a high quality. It always helps to have such beautiful women to photograph but even the candid images are very good as well. I enjoyed the written explanations and the lighting plans, although there could be more which would lift this book from very good to outstanding. The explanations are clear and useful, but I am left with the slight feeling that more diagrams and photos of the techniques could have made this book really outstanding. A great advert for the photographer though and well worth buying!
