It's a great deterrent,

I got this steering wheel lock for my 2000 Honda Civic Si. My car got broken into and I found this bar laying on the back seat. Found the bar was bent in the middle. It's an awesome deterrent but the car thieves managed to get off without a problem. If they want your car bad enough they will find a way. Good thing I have an alarm with starter kill and a clutch pedal lock.

When I initially started looking at steering wheel locks, I saw this one and thought, what a great deal and great price. It's like the original Club, but on steriods ! :D I was reluctant at first after hearing on the net claiming this could be picked by an ordinary pen! I contacted Masterlock after purchasing and they emailed me to assure that it cannot be picked with a pen. Perhaps it was with a previous model because this lock isn't a tumbler Kryptonite-style type. So when I received it, sure enough, it comes with a regular padlock-style lock and keys. It does need to be positioned correctly, though as the previous reviewer said, but I think it's an excellent steering wheel lock. And the red flashing led is a bonus, especially at night.

Car security for the rest of us,
This review is from: Master Lock 263DAT Titanium High Security Steering Wheel Lock (Misc.)
Let's be honest, if someone really wants to steal your car, and if they have the motivation, they're going to do it. But that doesn't mean you should make it easy for them. The Masterlock Steering Wheel Lock gives theives a hard time. Its double hooks make cutting the steering wheel and slipping it off more difficult. Prying or otherwise tampering with the bar could easily set off the horn, giving the theif unwanted attention. My only compaint is that the bar is difficult to install on my Taurus, as I have to set the wheel in a certain position in order to get a snug fit. Other than that, it provides a good means to keep the joyriders away from my car. Use this or something like it (pedal lock, tire lock, gearshift lock) along with some common sense (don't leave your car unlocked, don't leave your valuables on display) and your car should be fine.

Better than the original; a good product!,

Alright, I've read most of the reviews others have had regarding this lock and whether you love it or hate it really depends on your steering wheel. The four claws fit alright on the steering wheel of my Acura but it could be better. Nonetheless, this product is fantastic and I love the peace of mind it gives me. It is a little bit thinner than the original Club, but it is made from titanium so attempting to cut it with a hacksaw will be quite a difficult job. The flashing LED on the end is an added plus, giving off the illusion of a car alarm LED at night (if you don't have an alarm, that is). I've had this for a little over a month and use it religiously; if you're as paranoid as me, you should too. :D

I bought this to be one of the theft deterrent devices I installed in my new car and it works like a charm. As with many products that come with batteries, expect to replace the cheap set of batteries soon and the blinking light will work perfectly!

Got this because you can't beat it for the price (I paid ~27.50 after Shipping), but reviewing it price aside, I must say I'm disappointed:
As others have said, the flashing LED goes out quickly (within a day of purchase in my case). Also I am driving an older car that for whatever reason has a thinner-than-normal steering wheel grip. This means that the club can slide around an inch or two once attached on the wheel. Most importantly, it looks bulky online, but don't be fooled -- the piece of metal that "comes out" when you attach this to your steering wheel, is literally about third of an inch (1/3") thick. Last time I checked, cutting through a half- or third- inch of metal isn't that hard...

Better protection than the Club, but my wife has trouble using it as it requires some strength to firmly attach to the steering wheel without it slipping.
The locking mechanism broke within 30 days rendering it incapable of locking. It could just as easily have broken in the locked position making it impossible to remove. Has to be returned to Master Lock for the warranty refund. I like the design but not the performance so far.

Surely a steering wheel lock won't stop a vehicle thief, but it will surely slow them down. This version of the lock no longer uses a barrel key (which previously could be easily tampered) and is much more shiny looking.
Steering wheels with awkward spokes may not work, but my car worked just fine and has a snug fit. Received quick shipping from seller, and item is good as advertised.

My car got stolen then recovered due to a key that got dropped outside my home, so I had to find a way to protect my 11 yr old car without spending a fortune. What a blessing it was to find this $20 and change product. It's about half the weight than the club yet it's a very solid product. Just place and click. It should deter the crook enough to avoid the car if he decides to steal it from my driveway again (especially with a new security light in place as well).

Good steering wheel lock, have used the club in the past, definitely prefer this MasterLock. Easy to use and like the other reviewers said, a steering wheel lock is at best a deterrent, cannot really stop a determined thief. More details are below:
Things I LIKE: It fits really well over the steering wheel of my Mazda, the lock seems sturdy and well made. Its also very easy and fast to lock into place compared to the Club. On the Club, you pull the hooks into place and then lock it using a key, I get frustrated with balancing the heavy club along with turning the key. On this masterlock, when you unlock it, the lock pops out a little bit from its frame, so while re-locking it, after you've have pulled the hooks apart on the steering wheel, to lock, just push the popped-out part back in. This sets it apart from the Club and makes it much easier to use. Has a little LED light at the end that can be turned on/off, another visual deterrent. Uses a regular key and not a barrel-key that may be picked easily with a bic-pen. Double hooks should make it harder to take off the wheel. Things I DON'T LIKE: The lock itself and the key seem small, I think its a matter of perception and doesn't mean that a smaller looking lock isn't as good. |
