5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to use...
I bought this door / window bar when I could not find the Master Lock 265D (old style) door bar.
This thing works great and is easy to use. I have the 265D on one of my patio doors. That one you have to use a spring loaded button to adjust which takes a little time. The 266D you just twist / slide and lock into position. Very easy.
This one also has an alarm...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, Poor Construction, Quit Working in 24 Hours
The Master Lock 266D window and patio door lock with alarm is a cheaply made product designed to draw you in because of the ease of use and alarm capabilities. I agree the 266D is easy to use, but Master Lock must have sent this off to an Asian sweatshop to be developed, designed, and manufactured. Product doesn't sound as loud as I expected but much better than having nothing. It is easy to setup (less than 5 minutes) and is a good deterrent. I sleep better at night knowing it is there. However, you'll need to test it every once in a while because there is no way to know if the battery is dead. Even if the battery is dead, it still works as a door stopper.

The 266D is little more than adjustable PVC piping with a spring activate "alarm" built in. When testing the alarm on my unit I was underwhelmed and disappointed with the decibels the alarm generated--not even enough to disturb my cats. After less than 24 hours use--and one drop on the floor--the 266D no longer has alarm capabilities. I have left the unit on the door as the visible ALARM text may be a deterrent, but I plan to purchase and install a permanent metal security bar on my patio door. I would not recommend this product to anyone and would instead look at the Master Lock 265DCCSEN Dual-Function Security Bar as it is leagues above the 266D in terms of development, design, and construction. Plus, the 265DCCSEN is made of metal and can work on both patio or regular entry doors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not secure, April 14, 2010
This review is from: Master Lock 266D Window and Patio Door Lock with Alarm (Tools & Home Improvement)
I initially bought this thinking it would fit any patio door. Little did I realize I should have measured the patio door first before buying this. Turned out my patio door was too big. But even when I tested the Master 266D lock's at full extension, it kept popping out. Not very secure for my patio door at all. On top of that, the alarm went off very briefly. Even if I got the Master Lock to fit my patio door, the alarm wouldn't be loud enough to wake me up at night (unless I sleep right next to it).

This is a cinch to set up. A quick twist, and it's unlocked so you can slide the bar to the correct length. A quick twist and it locks at that length. Works much better than a broom handle because you can quickly change it to different lengths depending on whether you want a window open a little, or if you're going out and don't want the window opened at all.

The spring should allow for the alarm to go off when the spring is released - as it is now, the spring has to be surpressed before the alarm goes off - therefore if the door lock alarm system is knocked, or pushed out from its position, no alarm will go off.

This is a MUCH better alternative to the plain old pieces of wood. In fact, I'm sending them as Christmas gifts to my parents in Florida. They work very well, very easy to set up (just turn it on and lie it down). Excellent product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, March 18, 2010

At first glance, when I got it, I did not think it would work because it is very light (plastic). I purchased two for my two sliding doors. I like that they are visible and is a good deterrent. I have actually startled myself when trying to open the sliding door and forgetting to remove it!

I have an alarm system but have always been concerned that someone can still break in if the door does not have extra support - at least with the extra support it could delay the entry and the police has enough time to respond to the alert.

I recommend it to add the extra level of security.

Biggest disappointment of all time, I wouldn't want this if they were giving them away for free by the dozen. First off it's too short to fit the space for the sliding glass door (and trust me I have standard sliding glass doors nothing fancy or unusual) and when I tried to use for the windows instead it was too long (again standard regular windows) Second of all it's made of cheap plastic and weighs absolutely nothing. Thirdly when you extend it to fit lets say a patio door and you push on it the lock gives way. Surely this product wouldn't even stop a a two year old from breaking into your home. The alarm is loud enough I guess...that's if it ever goes off. In conclusion your much better off picking out a sturdy twig from the nearest tree and call it a night.
