I've read the reviews before i bought ten of these locks. i've been using the black version for years and these have a slightly more sturdy body. it is true about spinning the wheels which up until i read the reviews and these people told the secret so everyone would know, i didn't know about. these are a deterrent. if a thief has to take 30 seconds fusing with your lock,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Lock too easy to pick
Even though this lock offers convenience in being able to set your own combination, it is very insecure. Once could pull on the lock while spining the number dials to easily pick the lock. Even though this lock offers convenience in being able to set your own combination, it is very insecure. Once could pull on the lock while spining the number dials to easily pick the lock. In fact, had this lock on my luggage traveling in Asia, and arriving at my destination the lock was missing. Instead, check out the 4-dial combination lock from Brinks. If you pull the lock while spinning the dials, even when you get to the correct combination the Brinks lock won't fall open. Instead, you need to release the tension (stop pulling on the lock), then pull for it to open. So somebody trying to pick your Brinks lock has to go one number at a time vs spining quickly thru an entire sequence of numbers on the Master Lock.

I've read the reviews before i bought ten of these locks. i've been using the black version for years and these have a slightly more sturdy body. it is true about spinning the wheels which up until i read the reviews and these people told the secret so everyone would know, i didn't know about. these are a deterrent. if a thief has to take 30 seconds fusing with your lock, he's going to pick a bag without a lock. i was wondering how on our last trip there was a TSA certificate inside our bag when the lock was still intact. you want a smoother mechanism buy a $15 lock. a thief wants to get in he's going to use a hand held bolt cutter and just cut it off, you could probably bend most of these with a set of pliers. my main purpose besides a slight deterrent is to keep the zippers from spreading and i usually lock it at the base of the pull tab not at the top so it don't hang as much and maybe get caught in a conveyor belt. i found that usually at least one of the wheels didn't respond easily, spray a little WD-40 in the mechanism and work it in. a lot smoother turn and harder to pick, wipe it good afterwards so you don't get the oily mixture all over everything when it drains. i really don't understand the concept in the one review of not being able to read the numbers well, it's all a matter of knowing which number comes after 1 and so on. in high school people knew how to jimmy the handle on the lockers, some people can pick a round master lock. you aren't going to stop a professional. there is a video on the internet showing how to use a pen to spread the zipper of a suitcase and then close it back up, 10 for $32 OK by me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected from Master, September 27, 2000
This review is from: Master Lock 620D Set-Your-Own Combination Padlock, 13/16-Inch (Tools & Home Improvement)
The lock is heavy and durable. Its a pain to set your combination, and you have to jumble the numbers in order to lock it. The lock face numbers are inverted, so you have to tilt your head a certain way to look at the numbers. Other then these inconviences, I give this lock * * * - Not what I expected from such a good lock company.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic combination lock, October 13, 2011

This review is from: Master Lock 620D Set-Your-Own Combination Padlock, 13/16-Inch (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a basic combination lock, works well for apartments with small basements. Not that sturdy. The handle can be easily sawed open. So don't use it to protect anything too valuable. The lock works well as a solution to ward off pesky scavengers who aren't really lokking to steal but want to peek in.

This review is from: Master Lock 620D Set-Your-Own Combination Padlock, 13/16-Inch (Tools & Home Improvement)
This lock works for my intended use, which is basically just a way to keep a plastic shed in my backyard closed. I didn't buy it planning on high security. But it is smaller than I expected (basically luggage-lock sized), isn't super secure with only 999 combos, and the locking action doesn't seem too secure. It has a high-quality finish and the body is nice and strong, but the locking loop and mechanism just don't seem up to master lock standards.

1.0 out of 5 stars NO USE FOR IT NOW, May 14, 2011
This review is from: Master Lock 620D Set-Your-Own Combination Padlock, 13/16-Inch (Tools & Home Improvement)
The lock is so small that it won't do you any good b/c it will just come right off if you pull it harder. Also, the 1/8" shackle diameter is so tiny that it won't even fit into a gym locker. USELESS LOCK!
