Excellent Gun Lock for Safety,

This review is from: Master Lock 94DSPT 3-Digit Combination Gun Lock (Tools & Home Improvement)
The first review by "Chris" is very illogical. He gives it one star because this lock isn't good for defensive purposes. Well, this lock isn't made for defensive purposes. It is made to lock triggers with the use of a combination...so you don't have to scurry around looking for a key. It is very well made and amazon does a public service by providing these trigger locks for such a low price. look on ebay and you will see jokers trying to charge $20 for this unit.
This is a five star lock all the way. It works on my lee enfield, colt 45, sks, hi standard hd military pistol, m1 garand, h&r single shot shotgun. The review by Chris needs to be removed as it is completely irrelavant to the intended function of this lock. If he wants something for defensive purposes he needs to go get one of those sliding finger gun safes that cost $200...not a saftey lock for $9.

Good design and easy to use - not universal fit.,

With a 3-digit combination, this lock is better used to protect against accidental (read kids') use rather than theft/illegal use. In my view, the lock successfully achievies this purpose. The lock is much easier to use than the cable locks typically supplied with new firearms.
The lock has sliding little plastic "knobs" as well as softer stationary "spikes" to keep it in position. On my lock, the little knobs have a tendency to stick. It is not a big deal, just something to mention. Also, on my Glock 30, positioning the lock is a bit difficult - it helps to dry-fire and leave the trigger in the back position - not a fault of the lock itself, just be aware that fit may not be universal. Overall, I would recommend this lock for anyone with children or under statutory requirements to secure firearms.

What's the lock for?,

I own a dozen handguns and have tried all kinds of locks. When installed properly, Master trigger locks, whether key or combination, will with almost complete reliability do what they are supposed to do: prevent a child, visitor, family member, or intruder from picking up the gun and firing it, accidentally or on purpose. But BE CAREFUL, because people have managed to fire guns equipped with trigger locks. On some guns, the configuration of the trigger guard does not catch the little posts on the lock, and it's possible to slide the lock and engage the trigger. The lock itself can fire the gun. The National Rifle Association discourages use of trigger locks, and there are better routes to gun safety.
Why do you want to lock your guns? To prevent them from being stolen? To make it extremely difficult for someone who steals one to get it operating? To make it impossible for someone to pick it up and figure out how to fire it? If you want to prevent theft, then get a real gun safe. If it's a large safe, nobody will drill or pry their way in, and it will be far too heavy to carry. If it's a small safe, bolt it to your basement floor with masonry bolts into lead anchors. They won't excavate your floor to steal a safe unless it contains a whole lot more than guns. If you want to lock your gun so that it's practically useless to a thief, then get a serious padlock, probably with a long shackle, and lock it onto the frame so that either lock or gun practically has to be destroyed to get it off. For a revolver, open the cylinder and lock the frame. The cylinder cannot be closed, and the gun cannot fire. For a self-loader, remove the magazine, EJECT THE CARTRIDGE FROM THE CHAMBER, open and latch the slide, and lock the padlock up through the handle and out the top. (You might need a pretty long shackle on some guns.) You can also use a cable 3/8" or even 1/2" thick and a good padlock. Get a 5-foot cable and lock several guns at once. Some of the better bicycle locks work great. I use a 5-foot Schlage lock and cable in my car, and secure my 9-mm Beretta to the foundation of the passenger seat if I'm not going to carry the weapon. I also cover the gun with something so it's not visible to the paroled murderers walking by. Not easy to get that gun, even if you steal the car. Yes, someone willing to dynamite your basement floor, haul away a 300-pound safe, spend hours opening up your safe with torches, and spend hours more filing away hardened steel shackles (or trying 3-digit combinations) will be able to steal your guns and use them in crimes. But they won't. There are far easier ways to procure firearms. Note: If you do use a Master trigger lock, insert it so that the connecting bar is behind the trigger, if possible. If you do this, the trigger can't be pulled, and the lock can't be slid around so as to engage the trigger. In fact, a large enough padlock can be used as a trigger lock as long as the shackle can't be maneuvered around the trigger or to a position in which the trigger has clearance to fire. Oh, and . . . I will give up my gun when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Good design, strong countermeasure against accidental usage,

By accidental usage, I mean usage by others that shouldn't have access to the weapon (like your children for instance).
This is a solid lock with a good design, and its easy to use too. I have this on my current handgun and all I have to do is set-and-forget, and it'll stay locked until I need to unlock it. Granted, just like any other trigger-lock, you might be scrambling to unlock it if you find yourself in a fight-or-flight situation, but if it comes to that maybe you should consider having an emergency weapon handy for immediate deployment, and use this trigger-lock for range or collector guns only. Trigger-locks are meant to protect you and your family from accidental usage, please consider this fact when you review this product for purchase.

Its a little thick but sure is very strong. Not fitting with my Remington 870, Remington 700, Ruger 10/22 very well but sure work super with my Walther PPK/S pistol. It sure is a universal gun trigger lock but best with pistol.

I'm very impressed with the Master Lock 3-digit combination trigger lock. It fits well on the various firearms I own, without any tendency to scratch or mar my expensive weapons.
As a test, I took one of these and tried to pry it open using pliers and various other tools (of course, not when it was attached to one of my firearms!). Only way I found to open it was using a large diamond tipped drill bit to punch through the side of the unit. Still, I suspect that when attached to a firearm, the weapon would definitely be damaged by this sort of forced removal. Compared to the typical locks shipped by gun manufacturers, I'd say it's at least as secure. Otherwise, I found it easy to set whatever code I want, and to operate the lock. I could get it on or off my firearms in just a few moments, with one hand if I needed to. Feels to me that Master Lock has the right combination of security and accessibility here. Definitely recommended.

I was looking for reviews on how this would fit in a compact glock model, so here it is :) Just pop it in upside down, fits great, even if you put in a clip and loaded the chamber it absolutely can not be fired.

Master Lock 94DSPT Combination Gun Lock
Good product. Locks trigger and lets you use a combination vs having to find the key. Also, combination resets to 0 when you spin the combination one way so you can unlock the trigger lock w/o having to see the #s. |
