Product Description

The Master Lock 410 Series Zenex lockout/tagout padlock has a nonconductive thermoplastic body that functions in temperatures from -70 to 350 degrees F; retains its key until locked to ensure it is not left unlocked; and has a keyed different 6-pin tumbler cylinder for security (over 40,000 key codes). This padlock has a 3"/76 mm vertical shackle clearance for extra length. "Property of" labels with blank lines for customization and "Danger: Locked Out Do Not Remove" labels in English, French, and Spanish are included. This padlock is part of a lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety procedure required at facilities where a device or energy source needs to be isolated during maintenance and repair. When used according to manufacturer's recommendations, this product is covered by a limited lifetime warranty against defects in workmanship or materials.

The lock body is Zenex, a UV-stabilized thermoplastic with tensile strength and resistance to corrosion. The shackle is plated to resist corrosion, but non-hardened, as some LOTO procedures require the shackle to be cut with bolt cutters. The lock mechanism is lubricated with a National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) certified lubricant that meets category code H1, designating this lock safe for use in food processing areas.

*Overall dimensions 1-3/4 x 1-1/2 x 3/4 inches (44 x 38 x 19.05 mm) (H x W x D)
Weight 4.32 oz.
Vertical shackle clearance 3" (76 mm)
Horizontal shackle clearance 25/32"
Shackle diameter 1/4" (6 mm)
Shackle pull force withstood 800 lb.

*H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.

Vertical shackle clearance is the distance from the top of the lock body to the farthest point on the inside of the shackle. Horizontal shackle clearance measures the space between the shackle heel and shackle toe. Shackle pull force is tested to American Standard for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F883.

Lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety procedures require that lockout devices meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 1910.147(c)(5) standards for quality assurance. Safety padlocks, also called lockout padlocks, use colors or warning labels to help prevent machine operation or power activation during maintenance and repair. The security level of a safety padlock is measured more by the number of key codes (also called key changes or key cuts) it can offer than by its ability to withstand physical abuse. A padlock with more pin tumblers and higher precision key cylinders has more key codes available, making it harder to pick, and less likely for a large facility to inadvertently give two employees padlocks with the same key code. Keyed alike locks allow one user to open many padlocks with one key. Keyed different means each lock is opened by its own key. Master keyed locks can be opened if the original key is lost or unavailable during an emergency.

Master Lock manufactures padlocks, combination locks, and related security products. The company, founded in 1921, is headquartered in Milwaukee, WI.

Riding an ATV in the city streets in the island of Cozumel, Mexico, is legal. So locking my storage-box is a security necessity. I needed a lock for the storage-box (mostly for groceries shopping, gym and scuba diving)I installed on my ATV with a very specific vertical shackle clearance.
Loosing 2 locks back-to-back in 3 months is a BIG deal because I live on the island of Cozumel, Mexico where finding the correct replacements are not as convenient as walking into a major hardware stores as we know it in the US. How did I managed to loose 2 locks within such a short amount of time to each other? Well, what can I say? I won't lie! Oversight; hurried and allowed myself to be distracted... Did I set the lock aside in the shopping-cart and forgot about it? Did Inplaced the lock on the seat of the ATV without noticing it fell off and drove off? If I knew, I would have founds those locks. Anyway, so now I had to replace the ONLY 2 locks (on the island, it seems) that has a 3" vertical schackle clearance. SomI ordered too locks, the "Master 410LTRED, and another lock that gave me the same vertical clearance. The "Master 410LTRED" was not the first one I tried, but the one Inended up staying with. Here's how the lock works which makes the design so effective.
The lock will not let you remove your key until the unit itself is in a 'closed' position. That means a key is needed to open the locks in order to use it, and while you're at it, you cannot remove your key either unless the lock is 'shut closed' position. So that means I can no longer just lock-up the storage box (with a lock that does not have these requirements) and walk away, with my keys still in the ignition (I had a few of those, and bless anyone who never once left their keys in their vehicles). Annoying feature, yes... Effective in what I want, absolutely!!

I took this to a very experienced locksmith and the key says on it do not duplicate. She also said she does not have a way to duplicate this key. Master lock won't provide additional ones, so if you are comfortable with just one key to this lock then it is fine, but I need a lock where I don't have to have it cut off if I lose 1 key, so this does not work for me.
