4.0 out of 5 stars Peace Of Mind For My Road Trip/Back-Packing Vacation
This review refers to Master Lock 646T 2 Pack

These locks worked great for my purposes. That is locking my luggage left in motel rooms while on a recent road trip. I did not want to have to worry about my laptop or other valuables while away from my room for hours at a time. Nice also that two came for a good price as I used the other for backpacking...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT TSA Approved - althought the description says it was
These locks do NOT carry the TSA approval and do not have a way for TSA authorities to open them. I had to go out at the last minute and buy approved locks before my trip!

4.0 out of 5 stars Peace Of Mind For My Road Trip/Back-Packing Vacation, November 11, 2010

This review refers to Master Lock 646T 2 Pack

These locks worked great for my purposes. That is locking my luggage left in motel rooms while on a recent road trip. I did not want to have to worry about my laptop or other valuables while away from my room for hours at a time. Nice also that two came for a good price as I used the other for backpacking excursions. With two outside zippers on my backpack containing my cell phone and wallet I did not have to fret about pickpockets or keep feeling in back of me to make sure it was still zipped up.I loved also that I didn't have to worry about where to put those little tiny keys that come with other locks.

It was very easy to set my on combinations(3 numbers) - directions were included. I tested them several times before locking up my stuff and never had any problems opening or locking them. They seem sturdy and durable. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that I read the product details to understand that I could change/reset the combination - the one I made - but I tried several different ways, including going back to the 000 combo that the lock came with, but once I set the combination I could not change it again. So burn your numbers into your head. Also the packaging is that hard sealed plastic - I hate that stuff - that is difficult to open without some sharp scissors

Otherwise, a really good deal for peace of mind on my roadtrip/backpacking vacation. They will also work nicely for locking up briefcases, etc.

I was not going to fly anywhere so TSA was not of concern to me. Many of the other reviews here say that these are not acceptable for TSA so I would not recommend them if you need that.

Thanks....Laurie

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable value, December 17, 2007

For the money, these locks are ok. I couldn't see how they were supposed to be opened by TSA which the description implied that they could be. However, for keeping the suitcase locked in a hotel room they work just fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Locks, December 14, 2001

The locks are great for suitcases--from a trusted name. One lock, however, has prematurely failed to recognize the pin #!--sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't---oh the grief!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I buy these *because* they're TSA-proof, June 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't want anyone opening my carryon luggage without my permission, and in this age of rampant theft at airport "security" checkpoints I find these provide a little extra peace of mind. I won't go through the new airport naked scanners due to concerns about my civil rights and about radiation, and it can sometimes take TSA staff a few minutes to bring my belongings where I can see them while I'm waiting to be searched.

The locks are pretty sturdy and would require a little torque to break. Of course anyone who was determined could get through them reasonably easily, but they provide an extra layer of security for me not to have to worry about my wallet or watch going missing at the airport checkpoint. I've been recommending these to everyone. The price is right, too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not TSA approved!, February 20, 2012

I KNOW that when I ordered these last year that the description said they were TSA approved (it doesn't now). I just used two of them this month and had a rude awakening at the airport. They are NOT TSA approved. Unfortunately, because I've had them so long I can't return them. So I have six useless locks that I can't use for my luggage when flying. I won't buy from this vendor again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Used on a trip to India, February 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I used these locks for my luggage on a trip to India in January 2012. I did not want keys for my luggage locks because I was afraid I would lose the key during my travels. Next time I buy luggage locks, I will buy sturdier looking ones that don't look so easy to cut through.

3.0 out of 5 stars strictly for luggage - not real security, January 12, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The locks are 2 pieces riveted together & could be easily broken open with a screwdriver. Their only real value is that in order to get into your luggage it would be obvious that the locks were broken. That would give you a basis for a complaint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should Have Read The Ad Better, January 5, 2012
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I should have read the listing better as these are not TSA approved. They are still worth the price I paid for them. The combination was preset at the factory however you can change that to any three number combination you desire and it changes very easily. The directions are on the card that comes with the locals. These locks are for light duty only. Will not protect large bags as the lock can be opened without a lot of difficulty.
