One of the standard references of recreational maths., February 15, 2002
This review is from: The Master Book of Mathematical Recreations (Dover Recreational Math) (Paperback)
I can't believe no one has already added a review of
this well-known and frequently referenced book. Perhaps
none was necessary as it is so widely known. The "Master
book" is often cited by other authors - Gardiner,
Berlekamp-Conway-Guy, etc. This book belongs in any
serious recreational mathematician's reference library
along with "Mathematical Recreations and Essays", "Winning
Ways", "Amusements in Mathematics". It is published by
Dover and is a high quality republication of a classic
at a very low price. Top value for money.

The Real Master!, September 26, 2011
This review is from: The Master Book of Mathematical Recreations (Dover Recreational Math) (Paperback)
Yes, this is the real master book! I bought this book in 1974 and I knew this is the last book on math recreations I would ever have to buy. I am still right after 37 years ... though there are so many similar books published since, every time when I come across a math puzzle, there is always a discourse in this book ... in depth and with many known variations. However, for any recreation game described here, you need to read it thoroughly through, the benefit is that, once and for all, you wouldn't be interested in tackling it anymore (which in turn saves a lot of your time in the future when re-encountered)!
