More hype than substance,

Just didnt find anything that floated my boat on this. Its not a horrible book by any means but seems to me more hype than substance and more about motivation than real leadership. Just didnt do it - dont have much to say about it really. Disappointing

Dull, dull, dull,
By A Reader from Chicago (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Master Motivator: Secrets of Inspiring Leadership (Paperback)
I heard one of Batten's tapes and liked what I heard so I was inspired to get this book. My mistake! This book is so contrived with a sappy Doug character who is used to tell us the story of a Master Motivator. Doug wins the award of a Master Motivator at his company at the beginning of the book and we go back to his story over the last year. Doug is a nobody who is really excited at the beginning because someone believes he has potential. This person who believes Doug has potential hooks Doug up with The Mentor. Yawn. Doug is his totally agreeable puppy thinking everything The Mentor says is wonderful. While I suspect that most readers will think that everything The Mentor says is like a parent lecturing a slow child. Or a slow parent lecturing a slow child.
But that's not all! In this experimental book we get to learn 200 things that each of the authors accomplished. Such as walking to school, or having a really expensive car! If you are not waiting for someone to believe in you and want a professional discussion of leadership, I recommend you check out some of John C. Maxwell's books.

Whole-hog Self improvement,
By john ridge (Indianapolis, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Master Motivator: Secrets of Inspiring Leadership (Paperback)
Through a memoir of how "Doug" became a glittering personal success the authors offer a total self improvement advice package centered on using wasted time to read and listen to motivational tapes. "Doug" does this to affirm, list, and build upon his strengths and energize himself (and others through mentoring) to unleash and expand his potential. I am assembling a bibliography of works on leadership and motivation, and this is the best I have found, due largely to concise writing and a "whole person" approach, including physical and moral fitness and including business, family, and the totality of life. A good read that will be referred to often.

Very Little Practical Information,

This review is from: The Master Motivator: Secrets of Inspiring Leadership (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book that provides practical leadership tips for motivating your employess, don't waste your money on this one. This book has a very spiritual, new-age feel and is geared more toward someone who wants to become self-motivated as opposed to someone looking to develop motivation skills for business leaders.
I am in the process of implementing a leadership development program for our organization, and found no practical help here.

Inspiring! Motivating! Instructional!,
This review is from: The Master Motivator: Secrets of Inspiring Leadership (Paperback)
This great book shows you how to lead not drive and explains the difference between leaders and mere bosses. Great foreward by the great Jim Rohn.
The Master Motivator is an instructional manual for success packed with scenarios and specific steps. You'll want to refer to The Master Motivator again and again.

Master Motivator: Leadership Inspiration by Batten et al.,

This book provides a step-by-step process on how to motivate people. The author calls for clear expectations, supporting
requests, training, feedback and articulating optimal solutions. The author asks that we complement the team when appropriate. A pyramid is depicted. It shows the following from bottom to top: - Philosophy - Policy - Processes - Programs - Performance The volume will assist in motivating people during every stage of the work experience. It is worth the price charged for readers who will apply the contents dispassionately. |
