This review is from: A Master on the Periphery of Capitalism: Machado de Assis (Latin America in Translation) (Hardcover)
This is Roberto Schwarz's greatest work. Mr. Schwarz provides an in-depth Marxist-oriented analysis of Machado's masterpiece, the novel "The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas". The novel is brilliantly analysed both in its stylistic features and in its historical and sociological aspects. An important work for those who want to understand the contradictory nature of Brazilian soul and Latin American identity alike.
