More About the Author

"The challenge of raising a child or cooking a healthy pot of food for my family was almost never as hard as painting a human being or mixing the right hues, evoking my emotions and thoughts onto canvases. I paint the stillness and the quietness, the inner life-the beauty of life, expressed through the figurative art, objects and landscape. Painting after painting, I'm aiming to become better at examining the powerful marriage of feelings and thoughts in a more coherent way."
Love of art took her from the native land of Russia in the late 90-s to Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and then Florida. She followed her inner passion through studies in Oklahoma State, Penn State and art schools in New York. In her artistic lifetime, Veronica has demonstrated perseverance and commitment, investigating every new canvas with emotional wit. She has created artwork for many prominent clients, who have collected her pieces over the years.
The artist's drive to share her knowledge with the world and to answer numerous questions hitting her mail inbox has sprung into several books. Packed with information, her art books are a great resource for beginning artists drawing in colored pencil, graphite and painting.
Veronica has received many awards and publications, including Artists & Illustrators, Leisure Painter, UK art magazines; American Art Collector, American Artist Studios, Colored Pencil magazine, Syracuse Cultural Workers datebook, etc.

About a month ago, as an absolute beginner, I started reading the classic Betty Edward's "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" and working with the associated workbook - my goal was to eventually work with colored pencils and I was most intrigued by realistic colored pencil drawing. After a couple of weeks of drawing practice, I decided to not delay the colored pencil experience but to at least try the first demonstrations in Veronica Winter's "Master Realist Techniques in Colored Pencil Painting in 4 Weeks". From the first page I was hooked -- I was immediately engaged and knew I was being lead by a very talented artist and teacher. This book is very well written with clear demonstrations that I as a beginner found easy to follow. The subjects of the demonstrations are interesting and beautiful. The demonstrations are teaching me how to see with an artist's eye and how to handle the pencils with an artist's hand, laying a solid foundation upon which to evolve my drawing. I am having so much fun and my results are inspiring friends and family to explore art themselves. I look forward to each new demonstration and enjoy the time I spend drawing. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to other beginners and I would expect that more advanced artists would find it very valuable as well.

While the author renders lovely drawings, and offers all the basics on pencils, paper, etc., a beginning student might find the step by step projects frustrating, as they will not be able to achieve the look of the author's examples. No matter how i tried to emulate the dark shades shown, it was impossible to recreate the examples, and i am an intermediate artist at minimum. The burnishing techniques using turpinoid turned the work to mud...a great deal more instruction needs to be given on this technique. Beginners would be better served by working with Janie Gildow's books, tutorials and dvds...less chance of becoming discouraged.

It was a little like trying out a recipe for a wonderful dish, only to find that a key ingredient has been omitted, and the dish cannot be recreated.

This book is a practical step-by-step guide to how start drawing in colored pencil. I appreciated a lot of practical details about how to choose paper, erasers, and, of course, pencils - as I knew nothing about the necessary materials. I also enjoyed the detailed explanation of how to choose and see colors and values. I found myself walking around the house and applying the principles to objects around me. I think, one of the most useful things about this book is that it teaches you how to view the world around you as an artist. Of course, the step-by-step demonstrations of how to create an object are also very helpful. I must also say that the quality of the paper and graphics is superb.

If you're searching for a book to learn about colored pencil techniques, this one is a must have. It talks about technique, color , etc etc, and also explain what goes where on colored pencils . And the drawings , despite not being as realistics as those fromColored Pencil Painting Bible: Techniques for Achieving Luminous Color and Ultrarealistic Effects , they're quite good and realistic . Also, she takes time on explaining what goes where, not like other books who says "i used this , this and this color on those areas and we got THAT" .

For me who doesn't have much idea on where to begin with colored pencils, it's a great book!

I like the book itself. The author gives a lot of clear and necessary explanations in general, and there are many step-by-step demonstrations. I like the style of the artist, it is representative, but not photocopic , and involves personal approach which, in my opinion, is very encouraging and stimulating. But I DON'T recommend to buy a Kindle edition, because the pictures are so small there that you won't be able to use them as a reference. I had to search similar pictures on Internet to work on the projects. So it would be better to buy a paperback.

This is a nice book, but I don't think the title matches the contents. Though the Artist has rendered some nice pieces, and shows decent step-by-steps, the art work doesn't look real. There is an Artist Alyona Nickelson who does realism with colored pencils. Her work looks real, the work in this book in most cases is just alright, some really nice, but none realistic. I was looking for a book that would assist me in rendering lifelike colored pencil art. This book, isn't it. The price is also too much for what is given. If you want true realism, check this book out! Colored Pencil Painting Bible: Techniques for Achieving Luminous Color and Ultra-Realistic Effects

I was looking forward to this book, but when it arrived I was disappointed. There is really no measured 4 week time for this "course" which isn't a big deal because the projects are pretty helpful and easily completed at your own speed, But most of the book is taken up in what materials she uses (the same as most drawing instruction) and a rather lengthy explanation of perspective. I realize it is a "beginner" type book, but expected something more in depth. She does some nice work, but I've seen much more "Realist" art done with colored pencil and was hoping there would be more of that. All in all it's not bad as a basic introduction to drawing, but falls short as a "Master" treatise on colored pencil. And it's is way too expensive at over $30 for 140+ pages. One final note: the book arrived with half the pages bent inward; not much care taken in shipping.
