Book Description

April 1, 1999 Schiffer Military History
This book examines aircraft models by twenty outstanding practitioners from around the world, and provides detailed coverage of their often widely varying techniques. Each includes color photos of the featured model, plus numerous detail construction illustrations. Other chapters explain advanced finishing technique, vacuforming, model subject research, and tools/supplies/materials required for this arcane craft. While emphasis is upon aircraft from the two World Wars, the 1920s and 1930s are also represented by military, commercial, civil and racing aircraft. This is not only a book of surpassing visual excitement for the aviation/modelling enthusiast, but an invaluable technique resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plastic Scale Modeling - Advanced Techniques, June 23, 1999

This review is from: The Master Scratch Builders: Their Aircraft Models & Techniques (Schiffer Military History) (Hardcover)
John Alcorn's latest book is primarily aimed at those who wish to scratch build their models and it provides a wealth of practical information and photographs to aid the builder in that quest. There are articles about the models and detailed discussions techniques involved in building, along with a large number of photographs and drawings which clearly illustrate those techniques. The photographs are clear, well captioned and most are in color. Each of the these articles profiles and demonstrates the completed (and in process) models of a number of the best known and most accomplished scratch building modelers in the world at this time. It also provides at least two in depth articles which will benefit any scale modeler--Model Research and Photography and Finishing. These two topics alone justify any modeler buying this book and if used in assembling you modeling effort. I personally believe I could have saved much of the personal efforts I have made over the last 35 years in developing my skills, tools and techniques by having had, read and studied this book. As a dedicated, though not highly skilled, modeler, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, applaud John Alcorn's efforts and highly recommend this book to anyone seriously interested in scale modeling.
