BB a Go-Go!, March 3, 2002
This review is from: Master Serie, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
MASTER SERIE VOL. 2, despite its less than distinctive title and packaging, offers a superb selection of the French Marilyn Monroe's 1966-68 forays into pop music. In addition to her classic collaborations with Serge Gainsbourg, "Bonnie and Clyde," "Harley Davidson," this CD includes the original version of "Je T'Aime..." which (it is said) Brigitte considered too salacious for release. Like her screen persona, as a singer Brigitte is alternately brazen, innocent, and seductive. The songs, which span the range from sitar psychedelia to romantic café ballads, are interleaved with four instrumental interludes by Francis Lai (best known for the theme from A MAN AND A WOMAN). French pop is all very kitsch, but this is uninhibited, passionate kitsch a go-go. The only notable omission is the Serge Gainsbourg duet "Ford Mustang." This is a superb alternative to the higher priced INITIALS BB box set. Excellent sound quality.
