Like Master Studies, this is a workbook of material to use in developing the hands for drumming. Challenging exercises encourage students to learn slow, sensible and accurate practice techniques.

Essential addition to your practice routines.,

This review is from: Master Studies II: More Exercises for the Development of Control and Technique (Paperback)
Get this book (and his first one), a practice pad, and a metronome. Then spend a month working through them. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can build up endurance and coordination, which caries over to the drum set. All of a sudden, you'll wonder how you're able to play those fast 16ths on the high hat for an hour!
These books will give you a lifetime of fun and practice, don't wait!

Joe has done a great job of putting together some very challenging exercises designed to help you develop speed and accuracy. Mixtures of single, double, tripple and quad strokes are put in a variety of time signatures, including odd quarters and eighths, with accents in some very difficult locations. This really requires keeping mental track of where you are in each bar and is highly instructive in that regard alone. I highly recommend that you get his first "Master Studies" book before this one as I found Master Studies II to be much more challenging. Thanks, Joe.

Master Studies 2 is another (what I call) must have for any drummer, at any level no matter what style he or she might play. The notation is simple reading, 8th's 16th's 8th note trips,16th note trips etc.But the sticking combinations are challenging. There are some tough sections in this book for sure. The pieces are written in large print with easy to follow instructions. I typically play through it on a practice pad with a metronome. This is an A plus book with out a doubt.
