Angela Knight has brought her Mageverse series into full shining glory with this latest installment. I pre-ordered this and was excited to start reading. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to my expectations or her promise (based on the others in the series). My issues are: 1) Jim the werewolf is the only one to notice that not only has an evil vamp chick come to this small town, but the entire police department is in cahoots with the evil vamp chick (no one else...

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Rush!, April 4, 2006
Angela Knight has brought her Mageverse series into full shining glory with this latest installment. Blending the perfect mix of erotic romance, fascinating characters and pulse pounding action, "Master of Wolves" is the best and most solid read that Knight has penned yet. A brief quote on the cover calls her a "rising star". How wrong they are. She's already a star shining very brightly in the romance book industry and her latest book is sure to please any fan of the paranormal subgenre.

Faith Weston is a dedicated K-9 officer with the Clarkston, NC police department. When she gets an anonymous donation of a fully trained police dog she's not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Soon she and her new friend Rambo are busting drug abusers and all seems well within the confines of the small town. Rumors abound though of the town's jail, tales of people going in and not coming out alive. Such occurances are one reason Jim London has come town. He's set on finding his fellow werewolf's murderer and he comes up with the plan to go undercover - as Faith's furry sidekick Rambo. What he doesn't count on is her no-nonsense sense of justice, sexy body and honest heart. With death magic looming everywhere and a police department turned rogue, Faith won't stand down till she's solved the mystery. Just as adamate that Faith will not be harmed, Jim has no choice but to reveal himself to her. Faith and Jim will have to team up to find out who has the town's police in there thrall and when the going gets tough, the tough will get furry.

Fast-paced, action-packed and full of great signature Knight style romance, her latest is packing what everyone has come to love about her books. From the first page till the last, you will not want to put this one down. Faith is a great heroine. She's strong, independant, loyal and passionate. She's a little heart sore as well, but that's where Jim comes in. Readers will feel good about Faith's welfare with the sexy alpha Dire Wolf looking over her. He may be alpha, but he's not afraid to let Faith in on the action. He's charming, to-die-for drool worthy and all of Faith's descriptions about his butt...well, let me get back on track here. Together, they make one of the more enjoyable romance couples I've read about in a while. While both are jump-right-into-the-action types they still make plenty of room for each other, sharing the roles of hero and heroine equally. The opposition (a.k.a. the "bad guys") was equally as interesting and actually gave Jim and Faith a run for their money. I loved every minute of Knight's latest and still did not want to see it come to an end. Not that I didn't love her others in the series, but "Master of Wolves" lands them all solidly on my keeper shelf. Stay tuned for the next in the series, "Master of Swords" (Oct. '06) about Sir Gawain. Excellent tale, Ms. Knight. Many sighs of sated romance reading appreciation!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as her others, April 20, 2006
I pre-ordered this and was excited to start reading. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to my expectations or her promise (based on the others in the series). My issues are: 1) Jim the werewolf is the only one to notice that not only has an evil vamp chick come to this small town, but the entire police department is in cahoots with the evil vamp chick (no one else notices?? She's suckin' on these guys' necks, showing up at the jail, rebuilding the town's rundown, haunted plantation, brutally murdering folks and ripping their hearts out behind bars--- saloons not jail --- but no one notices?); 2) Jim shape-shifts to human and pretty much *boom* he and the heroine are in love; 3) mediocre sex scenes --- and Angela Knight usually writes absolute scorchers. It's not a terrible book, but it didn't add to the series for me. Hopefully, she'll get her groove back for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fabulous book by Angela Knight...., April 4, 2006
Angela Knight's Mageverse series has quickly become one of my favorites! In the Mageverse, there several groups of supernatural beings- witches, werewolves, the Sidhe, and vampires. The good vampires consist of characters from the King Arthur legends and refer to themselves as the Magus. Vampires are created by drinking blood from a grail; the original Magus drank from Merlin's grail. Unfortunately, several black grails exist and one witch, Celestine, has chosen to create her own following in Clarkston, SC. Werewolf Tony Shay becomes a victim for Celestine's quest for power and his childhood friend, Jim London, heads undercover to Clarkston. Of course, undercover means he is in the guise of a German Shepard K-9 dog for Officer Faith Weston! Faith knows something is wrong in Clarkston, particularly with the police department, but she is unaware of all of the supernatural aspects. Celestine and cop-turned-werewolf Keith Reynolds try to steal the grail from another vampire in NY (Korbal) and the fight that ensues results in Faith being called to the scene to investigate. Unfortunately, Faith is bitten by Reynolds and Jim has to help her through the change into a werewolf. Faith still doesn't believe the entire department is involved until she and Jim overhear Faith's own Chief of Police planning her capture and death. Faith must come to grips with her new role as one of the Dire Kind and her feelings for Jim while she and Jim work together to stop Celestine's plan. Characters from previous novels do reappear in this book but this can be read as a stand alone novel. Angela Knight has done an excellent job at taking several overdone myths and making them fresh, new and exciting. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Master of Wolves, August 20, 2006
Faith Weston knows that something is wrong with the Clarkson Police Department. Mysterious deaths keep happening but whenever she pushes to investigate she is stonewalled. Jim London has sworn to avenge the death of his best friend. His quest to find his friend's killer has led him straight to Clarkston. He decides that in order to find out the truth, he needs to go undercover. The fact that Jim is a werewolf aids in his undercover identity when he poses as Faith's new canine partner, Rambo. Only it's pure torture for Jim to watch Faith day in and day out, slowly falling in love with her while she doesn't even know he exists.

I have enjoyed each and every one of Angela Knight's Mageverse series and Master of Wolves is no exception! With every book I find myself drawn into the world that Angela Knight has so skillfully drawn. Vampires, Werewolves, Fairies, Merlin, Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, True Bonding and simmering sensual love scenes! How much more could the paranormal fan want? I always feel that next book in this series is not to be missed!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Master of Wolves - by Vicky London reviewer for Vampiregenre.com, April 2, 2006
By
Shannzu (Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews
Master of Wolves is another great book in Angela Knight's signature style. It's full of sizzling passion, fast-paced action and exciting plots. Faith Weston is a K-9 officer in small town Clarkston, SC. She has lots of experience with dogs including her cheating ex-husband, and her sexual harassment poster-boy boss.

Jim London is a werewolf who is trying to solve the murder of his best friend. He's pretty sure that the police in Clarkston are trying to cover up the suspicious murder of the bounty hunter. He's going to get to the bottom of things and luckily his shape shifter abilities will let him take the form of a dog. It just so happens that Clarkston P.D. is in need of a new police dog.

The sexy officer Weston is a distraction Jim doesn't need. He must avenge his friend's death, keep the secrets of his kind, and get the hell out of South Carolina. This is a tough job when the tempting K-9 handler is hot enough to bring out the animal in any man. Knight's world of werewolves and vampires is intriguing and addictive. The book also contains an exciting preview of Master of Swords.

I found this a very fast intense read. I found the main characters very believable and, due to circumstances beyound their control, they become involved with each other very quickly. I really enjoyed the original premise of having Jim be Faith's K-9 police dog to start out. Having read Knight's other books of the Mageverse I was able to re-orient myself to that world fairly quickly, though it would probably seem prettly complicated for a first time reader. I, for one, appreciated that Knight had the weres being able to change back to human form with everything intact and also able to communicate. Makes it much more logical and addresses issues often just overlooked by other authors. I like how characters from previous stories play an important part here and am really looking forward to the next book and battle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable addition to the series, April 12, 2006
Jim London is a Bounty Hunter and werewolf. His best friend shows up brutally murdered and when Jim goes with his friend's mother to identify the body it is obvious that something is wrong with the police department where this happened. Jim decided to go undercover and to do this he goes in as a german shepherd and is assigned to K9 handler Faith Weston.

Faith has moved to Clarkston to escape a nasty divorce and start over. She bonds quickly with her new partner and finds Rambo appears to understand everything she is saying. Faith becomes more and more confused about what is happening in her police department. When one of her collars turns up dead after saying that if she arrested him that he would end up dead she becomes more suspicious. Then one night she sees a blue light in the distance and goes to investigate.

What she finds is a ritualistic killing which she tries to stop, only to be bitten by a rogue werewolf and infected with the were virus. Jim knows he must save Faith as he has growing to love her. He changes shape and takes her away to be able to change shape. He stays with her, lets her know what is happening to her and what has happened to her department. This after a bit of adjustment also allows her to fall in love with him also. As they fall in love they are also able to bring down the rogue were's and witches that have taken over the department.

I found this book a good edition to the Arthur/Mageverse series. Though I still enjoyed Janes Warloard better than this sereies, hense the 4 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Humorous! This dog had me laughing - 3.5 stars, January 15, 2007
Having read the first two "Master" books, I now know what to expect from Angela Knight--sizzling sex, fun characters and plenty of laughs. MASTER OF WOLVES certainly delivers all these and a little more.

Officer Faith Weston has worked with a lot of K-9s. But none as smart as her new partner Rambo, a dog that appears to listen and actually understand what she's saying, including her tirades over her cheating ex-husband. And if any man tries to hit on her, Rambo is always there to rescue her. If only she knew how Rambo secretly pants for her...

When Jim London heard of his best friend's death, his instinct knew that it was no accident. Upon meeting the local cops in Clarkston, South Carolina, every bit of his animal gene screamed foul play and the only way to uncover the truth is to go undercover... but how? Fortunately for him, it appears that the police chief is looking for a new drug dog. How convenient for this alpha-werewolf and what a bonus that his handler is a sexy police officer.

The action continues as Jim and Faith get caught in the hunt for the vampires wreaking havoc in the world, and we get to see the characters from the previous books as they help eliminate the evil in Clarkston. I had fun reading this just as much as I enjoyed reading the first two books, but I thought that this was the best book so far. The characters are likable and I enjoyed reading Rambo's sensual thoughts about Faith. Once again, Knight has penned an action-packed and fast-paced book that will satisfy readers who don't mind fluffy reading. However, be warned that you must read the books in order or you're in for a lot of confusion as the characters are recurring.

5.0 out of 5 stars How can we possibly wait til October!?!, April 10, 2006

Sometimes you just wanna pull your hair out! When a series is this good you just hate to have to wait for the next book!

I have been a big reader for years, but historical romance is all you would find on my shelves. I eventually got to the point where it seemed like there was nothing left to read. If you had asked me a year ago if I would ever even look at a paranormal romance I would have given you a very crooked look. To this day I still have NO IDEA why I purchased Master of the Night, but I'm glad I did! It was a super fun read! After that I made it a point to track down all of the Mageverse stories and each one has been just as entertaining. This latest installment about werewolf Jim and officer Faith shows that Angela Knight has a great and never-ending imagination.

If you are up for reading a book with REAL yet DIFFERENT characters, mentally stimulating scene descriptions, yank-out-your-hair action, and stand-up-and-cheer victories, then this is a great book to pick up. Best of all, it looks great next to all my Johanna Lindseys and Julie Garwoods! I'm sure it'll look great on your shelves as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak plot, hot sex, March 10, 2009

(VINE VOICE)
Master of Wolves has a weak story and some very explicit sex scenes. I'm ambivalent about the love scenes. I admit to finding them stimulating, yet I also find the details distasteful. Oddly, though the book would seem to be written by a woman, some words I've only heard from men before. I can't quote from it here, but may only note that breasts do not pant.

The story is predictable but enjoyable. Jim, a werewolf, has to go undercover as a police dog. The K9 handler is a beautiful woman, but dedicated cop named Faith. Jim is attracted to Faith, but can't say anything as she gets into danger. Faith is lonely and pours out her heart to her faithful police dog.

As I read vampire/werewolf series, I am entertained by the differences in mythology of these creatures from author to author. In the Mageverse series, werewolves can make other werewolves by biting, but vampires can only create other vampires through a supernatural instrument, the Black Grail. OK, whatever.

This would have been a one-star book except for the sex scenes, which I acknowledge kept me reading. Not recommended except for those who like erotica more than romance, or fans who have run out of other, better supernatural romances.
