I read Master Your Metabolism and it changed everything for me, was exactly the information I needed to finally lose weight and get healthy. This cookbook was on my IMMEDIATE ORDER list as soon as I found out it was being released, and it did not disappoint. FANTASTIC yummy gourmet healthy recipes that help me stay on track and still eat really good food! I could do this forever! I've lost 22 pounds in 2 1/2 months and I'm still going, feeling like I could eat this way for the rest of my life.

Started to browse recipes but ended up reading cover to cover!,

I am extremely impressed! Jillian is not known for cooking, but it is evident that she consulted & collaborated with the right people to introduce a way of eating that is healthy AND completely do-able for a longterm lifestyle change.
I have many cookbooks...those that teach (e.g. Joy of Cooking etc), those with great photos, those from specific chefs and/or restaurants, those from particular regions or ethnic areas, those that limit something (like low salt or diabetic), those that promote a product (add a can of this to make that), those that only use fresh foods & organic products, those that are designed for quick meals or multiple meals, those that expand on a particular eating trend...get the picture? Most of my cookbooks have something in common: I purchased them for a few recipes that grabbed my attention. Each cookbook comes off the shelf infrequently and typically go back up on the shelf when I find that I don't have the ingredients or the time needed. Even the "new way of eating" or "diet" cookbooks are not sustainable, as the attempt to make daily food "special" has made it impractical or undesireable for weekly menus. Very few of these other (best-selling) cookbooks has entered my life more than a few times per year. Master Your Metabolism Cookbook is different. After receiving, I opened it just to browse through the recipes, and ended up reading it cover to cover like a novel. HAVE YOU EVER READ A COOKBOOK COVER TO COVER IN ONE SITTING? There is so much great information! The design is really good--things are easy to find. The health benefits of each recipe are listed, along with calorie/nutrient info. You can refresh your memory with the related nutrition facts & explanations as you prepare your meal. This has a nice blend of recipes & basics--it assumes nothing (e.g.assuming everyone knows how to prepare quinoa). The food is simple but certainly NOT bland. There is alot of variety for various tastes. You don't have to purchase ingredients that you will not use later. This book is full of healthy staple food with excellent flavor--meals that you will enjoy making and eating week after week. These foods are great basics to feed to families, and teach teenagers how to eat on a regular basis. There is no sense of deprivation. Many recipes have the potential to become a family favorite. Yes, you could get much (not all) of this information from other sources, but WHY would you WANT TO?? It is a waste of time & money to find/purchase a large selection of resources when Jillian has already done the work for you. Jillian has also synthesized the information & discarded the out-of-date old-school beliefs. I HAVE the other books, that I don't need anymore. Do yourself and your family a favor. Get Jillian Michaels' Master Your Metabolism Cookbook, and keep it close at hand. Don't buy the other books from me on Ebay ;>)

Love it,
This review is from: The Master Your Metabolism Cookbook (Hardcover)
I am a Jillian fan so I went out and got this book immediately. I already cooked from it this evening and the food tasted amazing. What I really love about the book is that each recipe tells you all the health benefits of the ingredients. For example, my dinner tonight helped to boost my metabolism, fight heart disease, and maintain a healthy complexion.
Learning about the health benefits of the food and the recipes is a really neat bonus to the book. Plus the sidebars are almost worth buying without the recipes. Highly recommend.

Just great book,
This review is from: The Master Your Metabolism Cookbook (Hardcover)
I just picked this up and began sifting through it. I haven't had a chance to taste the recipes in the book yet, but at a glance it's very impressive. There are over 125 recipes in the book each with all the nutrient information from calorie counts to protein, carb, fat, sodium breakdown. Jillian has put in some classic favorites like pizza, waffles, brownies, pasta made "the healthy way". What I like about that is knowing my kids will eat it without any guff. She does have all the classic healthy style dishes in the book as well like omelets, soups, salads, sandwiches, fish, beef, chicken, and vegetarian dishes.
The recipes also appear simple. Not too many ingredients. Not too many steps. Jillian promises the meals prep in under 30 minutes and looking at the recipes it looks like she has kept that promise. The other great thing about this book is that you don't need to buy Master Your Metabolism to understand this cookbook. Jillian recaps the principals of the diet in this so you can jump right in with confidence. And last, she has sidebars sprinkled throughout the book on everything from how to grow your own garden to how to start a buying group or co-op with your friends and neighbors so you can buy groceries. Happy cooking all.

great recipes, every single one I've tried is well received!,

We got this book in the house a couple of weeks ago and I tried out a few recipes from it... absolutely delicious. Even people with natural aversions to the words "healthy" or "organic" were conned into trying the muffins ("honey this is your best experiment yet!") and the curried chicken with cilantro, plus the thai green curry barramundi (substituted halibut) were beyond delicious. Especially since they were cooked by me, someone with the culinary skills of a klingon (yay, novice-friendly). I cranked my rating for this to five stars because everything I have tried has gotten rave reviews and I have yet to find a 'miss'.
Highly recommended, but be warned, there are no photographs of the food. I know some like the visual appeal, but in a way this is preferable to me since I am forced to focus on the nutritional values beside each recipe rather than how pretty photoshop made it.

Hugely Impressed,
This review is from: The Master Your Metabolism Cookbook (Hardcover)
I love Jillian, but I was a little skeptical about her doing a cookbook. It turns out that she did work with a chef to create these recipes and they are in fact quite tasty. All the recipes have detailed nutrition info on calories, carbs, protein, fats, sodium and so on.
However, the best part of this book in my opinion, is that it's not just a cookbook. It is actually a diet book and a cookbook rolled into one. Jillian tells you what not to eat, what to shop for, how to shop on a budget and do on. There is as much health information in the sidebars as there are recipes. She explains everything from starting a food co-op to what types of cookware are the healthiest and most affordable. I can't say enough about how great this book is.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this cookbook as I felt that some of the food ideas in her first Master Your Metabolism seemed a little impractical for me. I decided to go ahead and buy it anyways since I love Jillian. I'm so glad I did! I have tried the Chicken Salad, Stuffed Peppers and a few of the breakfast items and they were all super easy and surprisingly really tasty. I think some people may be disappointed at first by the book but if you try the recipes you won't be.
I also really like the fact that each recipe has nutritional info. and health benefits. I really like cooking but I prefer to make healthy meals so I am very appreciative of her doing this. I really feel that the way you eat can make or break your health and I support her for trying to combat our nation's lack of exercise and poor dieting. Try it-you won't be disappointed!

I appreciate Jillian because she uses real food. Clean, natural foods that arent processed or artifical. Her cookbook includes everyday normal ingredients that you can find in any local supermarket. They arent things youve never seen or heard of. They are simple and relatively fast to prepare. I also liked the sections in the book where she addresses health issues and gives you tips on how to eat to combat these issues. Such as PCOS. I have PCOS and it helps to know which foods are bad/better for someone who has PCOS. It can help lessen symptoms. I like it overall. I also enjoyed her first book, "Master Your Metabolism" and the calorie counting book is great as well. Keep up the good work!

Best Cookbook for Weight Loss Ever Made!,
By Annie Minette (SO CAL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Master Your Metabolism Cookbook (Hardcover)
I'm a gourmet chef and therefore, have a few extra pounds. Knowing what I know about cooking and nutrition, I set out to find a book that had recipes meeting the following criteria: They had to be SIMPLE, TASTY, EASY, THEY HAD TO BE LOW IN FAT/CALORIES SO I WILL LOSE WEIGHT ON THEM, and AFFORDABLE. All of the recipes in this book are what I was looking for. It's an amazing book. I've never seen anything else like it. Jillian must have spent a lot of time and effort with expert dieticians creating this book. I'm going to give them as xmas gifts this year.

Problems reading font size and color.,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Master Your Metabolism Cookbook (Hardcover)
If you have problems with your eyes you may want to go to the store and check through this book before your order it. I was really disappointed with the font size and red ink. And it's a shame because this is a really nice sized book and it does have some really good information and recipes in it. I don't know why they didn't utilize the page space better making it easier to read. A lot of the pages only have print on 1/2 of the page so there is plenty of room to make the font size bigger.
As for the light red ink they used I realize the author wants some things to stand out but instead of using a light red print they could have put a water mark on the recipes and left the print black. It's just really hard on my eyes trying to focus. So I am writing this review for others that have problems with their eyes. |
