Masterchef Ultimate Cookbook is a very good cookbook with minimal overlap with Masterchef Cookbook. It is a must buy for fans of the series for sure.

The approach is to explain the goal of each dish that the contestant made so the teaching approach is more indirect. There are not specific "Techniques" pages or recipes from the judges.
There is also some content spent on what some of the past contestants are up to.

In comparison, Masterchef Cookbook has sections on:
Kitchen tools
Kitchen Pantry
Techniques include for chopping onion, poaching an egg, cubing a mango, peeling a mango, segmenting citrus, boiling and poaching an egg, cracking a crab, seeding tomato, toasting spices, cleaning leeks, homemade pasta, perfect pie crust, cooking rice, roasting and cutting a turkey, and making chicken, beef and vegetable broths.

There are also recipes from the Masterchef kitchen and not just from the contestants.

Amazon, of course, is excellent. I preordered the book weeks before and got it exactly on Sept 18 as promised.

I have only had this cook book for a day and I am already in love with it! It is written very similar to the way I write my food blog, with more of a "this is what you are trying to accomplish" approach. I love the little technique sections such has how to "fix a broken holandaise sauce". This is definitely a great cook book for those aspiring to "do it like the pros". I hope to have a few of these dishes up on my food blog, justalittleginger.com very soon. Now I just can't wait for Christine's book! If you are like me and very excited for Christine Ha's book, not slated to be released until the spring :( , then look up her blog theblindcook.com and show her some love!

finally made AJs Dirty Lobster recipe from the cookbook. It was a very involved recipe which had a lot of steps. The first time I tried it I overcooked the lobster when roasting it and charred the shallots. The second time I did it it turned out so unbelievable it made the entire cost of the cookbook WORTH EVERY CENT!! hands down the best lobster dish I have ever had in my entire life! will be cooking more recipes from the cookbook now instead of thinking about it.

I was a bit dissapointed at the lack of pictures for so many of the dishes...and the blank space on those pages that easily would have fit a picture. I was also dissapointed in the type of recipes - many were too simple such as - get ready for this - bacon and eggs and potatoes - with absolutely nothing special or unique about this recipe, just eggs, bacon, potatoes with salt and pepper. Really? Also, almost a whole chapter on sweetbreads, and those of you who don't know what sweetbreads are, its so nasty look it up, you would not want to cook with them, its really gross and there was 5-7 recipes on it and I am not going to touch that stuff. I might buy 5.00 used though, but thats max. Just disappointed also that there were so many recipes from this season that were not in the book, and suprised at some of the boring ones that were, including some that dind't even get good reviews on the show yet appeared in the book. 2 stars is MAX, almost did 1 star.

My son-in-law is a fan of Master chef program and loved the book. He is an amateur chef himself and loves anything Gordon Ramsey is a part of.

After several years of long-distance, Boyfriend and I moved in together this year and one of the things we loved doing together was watching season 3 of Masterchef. I bought him this book for his birthday and we sat there together looking through it, remembering so many funny scenes, laughing at the dishes that went badly, remembering which ones we wanted to cook. Totally worth the price :)

Only thing that I thought was a little weird - did Ramsay not want to have anything to do with this book? There's not a single mention or picture of him in the whole book, despite an intro by Joe and Graham, and at one point Joe says something along the lines of "....when each contestant presents his dish to Graham and I." No mention of Ramsay. That struck me as kind of weird...

I love the show. I was very excited to know there was a cookbook. The recipes are incredible, and they included many of the winning recipes. My only complaint is that I don't need 4 recipes on how to cook innards or 3 recipes on how to cook spiny fish (whatever it's called - I'm not going to get off my couch right now to go look it up). But other than that? Very happy! Am hoping the next book has Graham's pea soup.

MasterChef cook book should be just that. I find some of the meals in it over exaggerated and nothing i could ever see on my table. Some recipes are better than others. But be warned. Half of the ingredients in this book you can't just find at any grocery store. Be prepared to dish out some money to make a dish because a lot of the ingredients are at Whole Foods or other specialty stores.
