first off I did not buy this from amazon because I didn't want to wait 2 to 5 weeks for it. I bought it from a major sporting goods store the one with all the stuffed wildlife you know the one. I thought i would write a review here anyway because I think this a great item. now this cold smoker works fantastic. I'm very impressed on how much SMOKE this thing puts out. I won't be putting wood chip in the main smoker anymore unless I want to do some lite smoking. this smoker seems to be made well and heats up pretty fast it also holds quite a few wood chips about three good handfuls depending on chip size. I'm very pleased on how well this works and will recommend it to my friends.

This unit makes good, cool smoke and sure helps when you're trying to get more smoke on your meat without having to raise the temperature too high in your main smoker. After over an hour of running this unit, the temperature in my main smoker only went up about 20 degrees, but that was also with direct sunlight hitting it about 15 minutes into the smoke.

One thing I noticed that didn't work as well as I would have hoped was the chip tube. It was relatively easy to fill, but I did find myself needing to shake it just a bit to keep the chips flowing down to the bottom where the element sits to produce the smoke. That's certainly not a big problem as I like to go out and check on the smoker occasionally anyway, but since opening the top of this smoker doesn't significantly impact the smoke or temperature inside my main smoker, it's quite harmless.

After smoking with this unit for many hours, the ash tray (which is pleasantly over-sized) barely had any ashes in it. This tells me the smoker provides smoke with little waste and that equals value for my money. This is a good cold smoker unit that seems to perform quite well.

I have had trouble smoking fish. The wood chips need a temp of about 180 degrees to smolder, but the fish needs a temp of only 140 degrees. I was having to crank the temp up on the smokers until the wood got going, then open the door to drop the temp to keep the fish from being overdone. A lot of trouble.
Picked up this smoker and tried it yesterday. This puts out the smoke!! Even with the main smoker off, smoke funnels just fine into the larger unit. You could cold smoke very easily.
My only gripe is that the unit needs to be on it's own outlet (as stated in manual). It trips the breaker otherwise. As my porch only has one outlet, with two receptacles, I had to run a heavy duty extension cord for just this piece. It seems that both the smoker and the kit should be able to operate off the same outlet.
Well worth the money.

We made some homemade sweet lebanon baloney out of venison. The baloney had to be cold smoked for about 50 hours using the cold smoking kit.It performed like I had hoped it would. When we tried the baloney after it was done smoking,you could not tell the difference between the homemade and the store bought. Me and my wife really like it. I would tell anyone planning on using it, to make sure and remove your wood tray from the smoker it's self. That was not in the instructions, but would certainly allow more smoke into the smoker. Once I pulled the wood tray out, the smoke certainly filled the smoker better.

For anyone who wants to do some cold smoking, this is a wonderful item. It is designed for use with the Masterbuilt smokers but you can use it with a drying chamber too! I purchased some dryer exhaust tubing and connected the smoke output chamber to my dry-curing chamber and voila! I now have a cold smoke-drying chamber for my sausages and salami
