This thermometer was priced right and is very simple to use. Though it is not as attractive as the "gun-style" infrared thermometers, it does have the benefit of using a contact probe. I've even found that the probe is able to measure ambient temperature fairly well, but not instantaneously. Overall, I'll give it a 5/5 stars b/c of the cost, simplicity, and the benefit of the contact probe.

I had a thermometer just like this before, and it finally took one too many falls our of my sleeve pocket. It was finally time to get a new one. So, this one looks and acts just like my old one except the back isn't all deformed from being melted (wasn't me. It was an incompetent pastry person back in culinary school who melted it.).
So, yes. I work in the food industry and find that having the dual IR and probe thermometer is great. This item has a clip that allows it to stay in my chef jacket's sleeve. I thought about the gun type of IR thermometer, but for my job, this is much more convenient to get when I need it. And, accuracy on the IR is perfect for checking temps on deep fryers and refrigerators.

The probe will be useful for checking internal temperatures of meets (i.e. Prime Ribs and chicken).

Lastly, Amazon does not actually sell this item, but the shipping was super-fast. I purchased this on Sunday and received it Tuesday. Can't beat service like that. Very pleased with shipping.

I bought this on Amazon for a bargain price of around forty-eight bucks. The dealer was great too, real quick shipping. It takes surface temperatures instantly especially within close distances. I tested a cold soda can up to 3 feet as long as it was directly pointed at it. It had a margin of error in picking up temps at longer distances.

The probe temp works great reading warm and cold liquids and food, but also works decently as an air temperature probe. It's not instant but it catches air temperature changes pretty quickly as long as it hasn't been sitting in a hot car or freezer just before using it.

Overall, happy with the purchase for the price.

This thermometer does both infrared and probe. So far, I've only used the infrared option. I've been using it while tempering chocolate, and it's compact enough to hold in the same hand I'm holding the bowl with. I also like that it's not gun-shaped like the rest. It's easier to aim while multitasking because it's straight. The other great feature is that I can set it to stay on for a full hour. This way I don't have to keep turning it back on while my hands are full. I use the centimeter setting, and it reads to 1/10 of a degree. So glad I didn't spend the money on a more expensive brand!

This product is perfect for my use (paranormal investigation) not only is the ir function available, but the ambient air temp is extremely accurate (tested it against another thermometer). put it in "lock" mode it makes for a perfect "hands free" use.

I got this item when I was staring up my Paranormal Hobby. This worked so well the first night I went out a bought another. But there's a big problem with this piece...

DON'T DROP IT... I dropped it one night and the infrared bulb broke and the screen showed broke so one was down.

The following night I had a camera on the other when something knocked it off a table...this time the infrafed pointer was just off center and will still not get a temp no matter how I try to fix it. ALso the K-Prob on both was a good 5-9 degrees off from the known room temp.

For the beginner Paranormal Investigator it's alright but for anyone who takes it serious and is looking to provide professional reports to the client it has to be a no go.
