The Universal Hydraulic Flaring Tool is a professional grade tool that is easier to use than any of the DIY (do it yourself) flaring kits. I keep my cars for a full lifetime. This means that I am often forced to make the choice to pay someone to do maintenance work or do it myself. Rusty brake line replacement has a low part cost but very high labor cost. Thus I do the job myself.

The challenge is that for the standard replacement brake line, you have to make a DOUBLE flare for the fitting to work right. Worse yet is when you encounter a metric bubble. The Universal Hydraulic Flaring Tool handles both with ease.

Out of the box this tool made a perfect flare with an inside finish that looked machined. The alignment was trivial, and strength needed to use the hydraulic adapter to make the flare is trivial compared to that needed with the $30 manual flare tools. Example: Advanced Tool Design ATD-5463 Double Flaring Tool Kit or Ridgid 23332 Flaring Tool

The unit is heavier than the manual units, about 3.4 lb and the dies are about another 6 oz. However, it is light enough and of a long and slender layout that I can make joints reaching around muffler etc. while under the car. In fact, in many cases I can now make flares where I could not have had the leverage to use the screw driven manual units.

There are other professional units out there which weigh over 8 pounds and use a lever system to apply the pressure to form the flare.

A great tool that makes perfect flare's. If you work with tools every day, this tool is extremely easy to operate. It is a little awkward it tight places under the vehicle, but what flaring tool isn't. It takes me just over 1 minute to clamp the tubing and complete a double flare.

The biggest advantage to this kit, is the ability to make fuel line fittings, it is a great compliment to any fuel line repair kit. I can now completely repair automotive fuel systems in house, without outsourcing any repair lines.

The one thing I was worried about, was ordering this tool and not knowing the quality, well let me tell you, the mastercool flaring tool is of excellent quality, just as you would expect, it will fit in with the rest of the tools in your box.

This tool is a great addition to my business, and will make it more profitable. It will take a very short time to pay for itself.

I'm happy with this product. After using the typical parts store flaring tools for years, I got tired of having to remake pipe joints because the pipe slipped in the tool, or the flare was off-center, or it leaked after I installed it.

With this tool, I don't foresee any of those problems. I'm currently rebuilding an older car, and I made all new brake and fuel lines using an older tool. Most of the flares leaked! I've remade them using the Mastertool flaring tool, and now I have no problems. I anticipate many years of trouble-free brake, fuel and air-conditioning lines.

I used this tool to make several flares. It works great. It's a bit awkward at first holding the die and tubing - but in minutes it was like I used it for years. I like this tool because you can bring the flaring tool to the car. Some of the other higher priced and higher quality flaring tools are set-up in a vice. If you have a brake line snaked through a car you-re pretty much out of luck bringing the brake line to the tool. With this one - you take the tool to the car.

I highly recommend it. One short-coming is that it doesn't make 30 degree flare for An and JIC fitting. Oh well.

I own or have used almost every SAE 45 degree double lap inverted flaring tool (and ISO/DIN Bubble flare) on the planet so I can't take all the happy glorious testimonials any longer. I own the Kent- Moore version of this kit supplied to GM dealerships. For double flaring lines OFF the vehicle in a well lit area it is acceptable but on-the-vehicle flaring exposes serious design problems. The tube dies are NOT doweled, tapered or otherwise nested and captured & aligned adequately (foolproof) with this tool. The upset adapters & cone attachment to the ram end have a ridiculous amount of slop causing further alignment problems requiring another hand to keep aligned as the adapter/cone @ ram is guided into the tube end. No easy feat with gravity and brake fluid keeping everything slick. Too easy to break weak adapter pilot pin or actually miss tube with cone. The tube dies are long presumably for better grip but that often renders this tool USELESS when the repair area is SHORT leading into a bend. I have other flaring sets with shorter grip length that have equal or superior grip...never slip. The hydraulic ram unit otherwise is very good & powerful. However, when I have a critical one-bite-at-the-apple situation I call on my Snap-On/Bluepoint TF-1000 (I believe similar is sold as Lock Technology 3000B multi flaring gun) a bit heavy but a rock solid design using heat treated tool steel and importantly can get at short lengths & has SELF-ALIGNING thrust bearing- screw type tube guided ram...you can sort of "feel" the flare as it's forming. Mastercool needs to apply better tool design principles here before they hit your wallet this hard. This kit is NOT the cat's ass just yet...I'd wait for an upgrade. JP
