5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos to Udo, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Mastercutor (Audio CD)
It's been a good year so far for heavy metal legends. King Diamond, Saxon, Manowar(of course if you ask me, that was a cruel joke after five years of waiting) among others have released albums so far this year. U.D.O being one of them of course. So, now I can use this opportunity to talk a bit about the new Mastorcutor cd and rant about Udo Dirkschneider. Honestly, it's quite easy to review a U.D.O cd. This is definitely a band that isn't fooling anyone, and never has. If you like them, you'll buy this and love it, if not, you won't bother with it. But just in case you happen to be someone who doesn't know the U.D.O format, I'll just briefly run it down-Mastorcutor, like most(if not all)U.D.O albums consists of Udo's style of heavy midpaced, tough guy metal with the one or two speedy numbers thrown in for good measure. Also a ballad or two. This is pretty much how Accept was as well. Sometimes there are slight variations, but that's pretty much it. But although U.D.O.'s albums may be similar, that doesn't mean they are all five star albums. Some are better than others. Some are a bit lacking and don't have as many memorable tunes, while some are nothing but. Mastorcutor falls into the later catergory. I have read some reviews outside of Amazon on other sites that rip this album for sounding "same ol', same ol'" and even a few(more than one, mind you) that state that Udo is "stuck in the 80s". This is a really stupid thing to say. It's like accusing the musicians in a symphony orchestra that they are stuck in the 17th century. Years ago, Udo discovered a style of heavy metal music that he loved and has since been performing. I mean, the guy is from the 80s, is he not? If you find something you love and works for you, why would you change it? Go with it, man! Udo has always gone with it. Throughout numerous trends in the mainstream and metal genres, throughout whatever some self proclaimed music experts say, smartass blog and youtube comments, Udo has refused to step aside. The guy's 55 years old, he's already made his mark, he's got nothing he's gotta prove to anybody. He's got fans who love him and has no need of teenage recruits. He's been doing his thing over the course of numerous albums(more than alot of guys his age who are still active), and with Mastorcutor he's still doing it.....and awfully damn good if you ask me. This is a band that's honest, you always know what you're gonna get with these guys(and that's good or bad depending on your opinion). They're basically the embodiment of everything Manowar brags about without the need to brag. Mastorcutor doesn't sound stale at all. It's awfully heavy, and full of catchy, anthematic metal songs. Two ballads, which I guess you can take or leave, but they are painless. Plus, you get a song where udo talks about smelling underwear and licking dirty feet! What's not love? Add another great cd to the U.D.O discography. This old guy can still sing better than your momma.

5.0 out of 5 stars The MASTERCUTOR, April 14, 2008

I have to say that this MASTERCUTOR cd is Udo Dirkschneider at his best!
This album is a highly polished, metal frenzy of madness.
I haven't heard guitar synthesizer work like this since IRON MAIDEN'S
Somewhere in time cd.
If you love old ACCEPT, this is it for you, because Udo has found his
place in history again. The chord progressions are a lot like old
ACCEPT but with more distortion and power.
There is a touch of industrial as well in every song,
especially on track #11(dead mans eyes).
All of you 80's metal heads will enjoy this because Udo has done
what judas priest tried to do in the 90's except he has succeeded.
Hey U.D.O give us some American tour dates!

5.0 out of 5 stars sounds like old accept, June 30, 2007
This review is from: Mastercutor (Audio CD)
This is a great album with good production. This album sounds like old Accept (Balls to the wall/restless and wild). There are several stand out tracks on this album and its there best to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weird at first, but like WASP & Dominator from UDO, January 11, 2010

When I first listened to this at home while working, I was like WTF?!
Not your typical UDO ...

I listened again at work while coding.
It sounds like Dominator & WASP circus theme.

If you want the same sound on every recording, listen to the same one.
UDO has the balls to tweak his albums so they keep ya interested.

If you can find this one, grab it.

Meanwhile, my favorite CD is Death Row.
Ears will bleed ... it's heavy!
;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Mastercutor review, August 15, 2008
This review is from: Mastercutor (MP3 Download)
I have pretty much every Accept and UDO album out and I think this the BEST UDO ever.

Instigator, Vendetta, We Do For You,.......these just rock in ways things have not rocked before. Mastercutor, One Lone Voice, Wrong side of Midnight...

I can't pick a favorite!

My only regret is that the version of the album I bought doesn't have the "European" bonus track of "Borderline."....from the few sample I have heard of it...it rocks up there as well.
