5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING BOOK! PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS AND PROS ALIKE!
Teacher-Extraordinaire George Omura has written a masterpiece. This book leads you by the hand through all the intricacies of this powerful software without letting you go. I was reluctant to purchase a 1600 page book fearing that I would get lost in a pulp jungle; given my experience with big, disorganized books. This book was a pleasant surprise well worth its price...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much, too soon
I'm sure this is a good book but it was over my head. I am a beginner and I needed a real beginning book. I will keep this book for later when I am more experienced. But I did take the advice of the previous reviewer and purchased "Exercise Workbook for Beginning AutoCAD 2000" by Cheryl Shrock. Now I can handle this one. Not only was it easy to follow, but I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great assistant for AutoCad students..., January 23, 2000
This book by Omura is a great asset to the beginning, mid, and advanced AutoCAD students who are looking for good quality referencing material to answer those difficult questions immediately. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and take it with me daily between school, work, and home. I'll be looking forward to more quality material by George Omura in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy me. Now., October 28, 2000
By A Customer
I am incredibly impressed with this book--it has much more information than the user's guide that comes with the program. The CD-Rom alone is worth the money because it features clipart, tutorials, another book by the same author called "Autocad 2000 Instant Reference" (which I had planned on buying anyway), 3D features, etc. Well organized, well indexed, and very readable; you won't be able to find another book like this (believe me, I did extensive research online and in the stores). I am a sophomore architecture student and so I just recently picked up Autocad--this book is perfect for me as I continue learning because it helps at the beginning and the advanced level. The only bad thing I can say about this book is that it is written for architects, not engineers (also, the hardcover, though worth it, is quite heavy in a backpack). I highly recommend this book--the price is insubstantial in comparison to how much information the book and CD-ROM provide.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book as usual by Omura, June 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2000 (Paperback)
This is a good book to have if you are learning AutoCAD. George Omura has refined and increased the material in this book over the last several versions of AutoCAD. You can not go wrong if you buy this book. The only complaint I have is that there is a "Premium" version of this book coming out in August and I have already bought this one.

Not only was it easy to follow, but I emailed the author with questions and she actually emailed me back with answers. Amazing. When I finish the beginning workbook I will probably purchase the "Advanced" workbook also. Then I will return to George Omura's book.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 more books to try, November 9, 2000

If you liked this book you will also like "Exercise Workbook for Beginning AutoCAD 2000" and it's companion "Exercise Workbook for Advanced AutoCAD 2000". Visit the website "shrockpublishing.com" and check it out. I found these to be more step by step and not so much to read. The Advanced workbook is really good for guiding you through setting up your borders for professional use. It is also great for classroom instruction. Students basically teach themselves with these books. They are also great as reference manuals to refer back too commands quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent for beginers-intermediates, December 26, 2001

(REAL NAME)
Probably one of the best computer manuals i have read, G. Omura has done a great job. The chapters are very well designed, taking you step by step without rush through the basics of autocad and the platform, then famialarizing you with some basic commands and components supported bt exercises, lateron while you buildup a project you learn more advanced commands and tricks, for me as a beginner i found grasping the material written which was alot very easy. the exercises are very useful, the CD is a great deal containing the mastering autocad 2000 instant reference guide and lots more, the figures are very well showen.
The book could use some "speed" though, some times you feel a bit "still" there is sometimes too much description for things which could seem too much basic. and the chapter on the 3D modeling and design could use some more work, i am planning to buy a specialized book for that purpose.
but all in all i think if i was to choose i would buy this book again.

2.0 out of 5 stars This book is a reference, not a tutorial, December 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2000 (Paperback)
Some comments on this book are misleading.
After seeing many five stars comments on
this book, I bought it as a tutorial.
After reading this book and using the
software for several weeks, I had not learned
much. I decided to give up this book.
My friend used this book for learning
AutoCad, she also had to give up.

Later I decided to buy another AutoCad book, called
"AutoCad 2000 - One step at a time", to
learn AutoCad.

Mastering AutoCAD 2000 Premium Edition is the best AutoCAD book I have come across in my career. It contains enough and practical oriented tutorials with other helpful tips and time saving techniques that can really make you an AutoCAD guru. The accompany CD is superb. I have recommended the book to my friends and students. Kudos to George Omura!
