A 'must' for any comprehensive collection.,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2008 and AutoCAD LT 2008 (Paperback)
MASTERING AUTOCAD is a very popular reference for any engineer using Autocad, and its complete update for 2008 keeps it high on the list of 'must have' references on the topic, packing in tutorials to build new skills for beginners while offering veterans explanations of the program's latest, advanced features. From developing AutoCad drawings and using dynamic blocks to presenting 3D models and making spiral forms with new tools, MASTERING AUTOCAD 2008 AND AUTOCAD LT 2008 is quite simply a 'must' for any comprehensive collection.

Omura Drops the Ball on this Edition,
By
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2008 and AutoCAD LT 2008 (Paperback)
I've purchased George Omura Autocad books in the past, mainly the Instant References. I felt the Instant References were extremely helpful, brief and to the point. But this edition is anything but helpful. I've found myself on numerous occaisons refrencing the AutoCad 2008 book and not finding the command or instruction that is used within the AutoCAD 2008 program. On many commands he'll mix the explanation with other portions of the manual making it hard to follow and not very descriptive, example MText command, where he writes on 2 lines of description and no examples. Command Icons are very hard to find and nearly impossible to read. The older Autocad editions use to list/show all the command icons. This edition does not. Another good example is DIMVARS AND SETVARS, even though this is 2008 edition, it is still used and needed to adjust different aspects of Autocad. Wouldn't it be easier to list all the commands in the Index and reference where they are located within the book? Another example, DVIEW, where is it? What ever happend to World Blocking or WBLOCK?? This just names a few out of MANY COMMANDS that are NOT listed or referenced.
If you are a Novice with AutoCAD I highly don't recommend this book. George Omura should have stuck with the Instant Reference series.

I am glad to recommend this book and any of the books from this author. I own several books of this author, all are dead on. Perfect for the beginner or professional. I have purchased other author's books that fell short in many ways, but not this author. I have a library of this man's books dating back to AutoCad 2.5 covering some 25 years. As a small business Draftsman, I whole really do recommend Mastering AutoCad books by George Omura, "Thank you George"
