Omura on Autocad,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011 (Paperback)
I have used several of George Omura's mastering AutoCAD books for different versions of the program over the years. All have provided the overview information right down to the intracies of AutoCAD. In addition the disk he includes has searchable pdf of the entire book, and lessons templates I find useful. I've never been an expert with this program but with Omura's text I can find the information and utilize the program to the ends I need.
It is an indespensible tool for me in creating construction drawings for small construction company and personal drawings.

Omura's AutoCAD 2011,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011 (Paperback)
I bought Omura's book for AutoCAD 14 when I knew absolutely nothing about AutoCAD. It was a great help and guided me through the drawing process a step at a time presenting a new concept in each chapter. The 2011 version is the same but of course updated. I was able to skip through some things, although its worth a look to see new stuff that has been added to the program. Admittedly, Omura is the only text I've used, but when I bought 2011, his was the only book I looked for. It is well indexed, so it is good as a reference in addition to being a good first book.

This book looks huge, but you can search just what you want to learn and use it for that particular command. But it comes with a CD Tutorial which is easy to use and is a great refresher course and teaches where all the new commands are on the new program, and how to use them. It is easy to read and understand. It is easy to find things in.

"Mastering AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011" was a very big help in getting me up to speed using AutoCAD LT 2011! While I was fortunate enough to have help from my Engineering student nephew, who uses the program in college and at is inter position, it was still handy to have this guide to aid in learning the complicated program.
The book is logically laid out, clearly written, and it is easy to find specific subjects of interest, but novices (like me) will greatly benefit from working straight through the chapters. It should be noted that I have only used the LT 2011 program and can not attest to the usefulness of this book for the additional features found in the full AutoCad 2011 version, but I have no reason to believe it is not at least as good as the information for the LT version. Recommended! CFH

Kindle Version needs the Exercise Files,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mastering AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011 (Kindle Edition)
Unless you're planning on supplementing the dead-tree version that you already own, I recommend skipping the Kindle version. This book is heavily dependent on the exercise files found only on the DVD that comes with the book. If you plan on working your way sequentially through all the chapters, you could probably make the exercise files yourself as you read along. Otherwise, you will find yourself frustrated with the constant "open file such-and-such from the DVD" that starts off each section. If the publisher decides to allow e-book purchasers free download access to the exercise files, then this e-book would be a good deal. Until that happens you are better off buying the paperback.

The series of Mastering AutoCad is a great learning tool for someone new to AutoCAD because it takes you step by step to help you get started with hands on tutorial lessons. It is also a great reference book for the more experienced. I have been using AutoCad for 8 years using version 05 and I recently upgraded to version 2011 and this book has helped a lot with the conversion for there has been many improvements done to AutoCAD since the 05 version.

I highly recommend this book as well as the others in the series. It helps to have some basic familiarity with AutoCAD before picking it up, but this book is well written and easy to follow.

The book loks good but unfortunately I have been unable to download all of the software from the accompanying CD, the executable autocad program files won't open on any computer. This CD is supposed to complement the book, so the product has been dissapointing.
