I purchased this book because I had a gotten the hang of the basic tools for creating small assemblies and basic parts. 3.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Autodesk Inventor 2010
I purchased this book because it came with an Instructional DVD believeing that it would be very helpful to me as a beginer in Autodesk. General book instructions are on par with other books on this subject, however to my suprise the DVD supplied with the book is a silent DVD (NO audio).

Clearly this silent DVD is of little use as an instructional tool...

I purchased this book because I had a gotten the hang of the basic tools for creating small assemblies and basic parts. I didnt really know how to get to the next step and really harness the power of Inventor. I was looking for a good explanation of some of its more advanced features as well as decent instruction. I was able to understand the different environment types, tools and software options that I would have otherwise overlooked or not understood fully without the help of this text.

This book is recommended to anyone who is already familiar with Inventor but needs a good resource to learn the advanced features this program has to offer. Great Reference!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Inventor 2010 (Paperback)
This is a great addition to any resource library you may have at home!
I would say that I'm intermediate Inventor user, so was rather easy for me to understand.
Has some great tips and is easily readable.
It was definitely worth the price to have this as a resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners, December 7, 2010

I rate myself a beginner in Inventor, I knew a little Inventor 2008 before I bought this book. I'm on Ch 4 and so far its been very good at explaning 2010 and how Inventor thinks. Some books/tutorials have you build complex parts right off the bat. The problem with that is you go through the motions but don't undertand what you did. This has you build simple parts so you know why you did something, then you build more complex parts later, which was better for a beginner like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Autodesk Inventor 2010, October 2, 2010

I've always found the best writing and help from Sybex books, Mastering Autodesk Inventor 2010 was no exception. The authors, Curtis Waguespack & Loren Jahraus, have gone beyond the usual regurgitation of the "help" files found in many of the software books I've bought and read and created something extremely useful. I've been amazed at how often the book has helped me solve or understand a problem or procedure using Autodesk Inventor. I might add that I'm no newbie to Inventor as I've been making my living with it for the past 5 years. Oh, I almost forgot the book comes with video tutorials and a few add in programs that I have also found useful. In short if one needs to study Autodesk Inventor 2010 or earlier versions of the program this book is a definite must have.

Clearly this silent DVD is of little use as an instructional tool without audio. A Clear warning should be placed on the book to warn prospective customer that there is no sound associated with this DVD.

Again the book is fine however don't rely on the DVD as I did to enhance your learning.

The MOV files are of high quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars Offensive to the Mastering Series, April 15, 2011
I had previoulsy read adn used the Sybex Mastering Series with Mastering Autocad. Now I'm expert at Autocad and, frankly that book made me think this series would have been all like Mastering Autocad.

However, "Mastering Inventor 2009" sucks. It does now work. Stay away if you are new!

You see the paragraph are not step by step and if you are new to inventor, like me, it is completely frustrating. I want to add the previously I hadn't written any review for amazon, but after many chapter of this book, I decided that I was obliged to WARN the people from this book. Unless you already know Inventor and simply want some update.
It is frustrating and you will hate Inventor with this poor written guide.
Don't be foolished by the images: the are simply pre-designed images and mostly the tutorials for those image are useless: it's all already designed, there is almost nothing to learn from this tutorials. It may be good for them showing that the authors are good at Inventor, well thanks a lot, but in this way I'm not gonna learn anything unless in a very painful, frustrating, time-consuming, "pessimized" way.
They are either very superficial with very few action described or they can be plenty of action to do on those images but with a lot of ambiguity. Now since 3D is more complex than 2D, at least in locationg edges and other things, and since I was new to inventor, the authors cannot be that superficial in supposedly step-by-step 3D tutorial.

Finally I want to point out that there were well 8 authors for this book and thereforo I suppose this can have caused much of the trouble:if one writes something in a style and the others use their own then, it's simply just going to be a mess.

I maybe be add something when I will be at the very end of the book, but for now I hope I have dissuaded those tricked into that bad, very bad, book.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2011 warning, October 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Inventor 2010 (Paperback)
Hmm, I am giving it 4 stars because it probably is good for 2010. I am using Inventor 2011 and of course none of the stuff really applies. Even creating simple constrained geometry following the examples to a T results in completely different forms -- so if you plan to use this book to 'master' Inventor 2011 (as I ignorantly am attempting to do), you might be better off waiting until a book for 2011 comes out... Thanks Autodesk I guess for constantly changing your products to be completely incompatible with each other. And why did they have to reverse the behavior of the mousewheel zoom??? So annoying...

Okay book. Not great. Helpful but not overly in some of the more complex areas. It was suppose to come with a DVD but no sign of it. Not even a place for it. Can't go through the examples in the book without it. I even looked for a text listing thinking I had to download it but nothing. Almost returned the book but under the gun to learn new software. Not the must have reference book for the new Inventor user but it is proving somewhat helpful when used with the software's on-line help files.
