Book Description

August 16, 2010 0470882875 978-0470882870 1
Expert authors Curtis Waguespack and Thom Tremblay developed this detailed reference and tutorial with straightforward explanations, real-world examples, and practical tutorials that focus squarely on teaching Inventor tips, tricks, and techniques. The authors extensive experience across industries and their Inventor expertise allows them to teach the software in the context of real-world workflows and work environments. They present topics that are poorly documented elsewhere, such as design tactics for large assemblies, effective model design for different industries, strategies for effective data and asset sharing across teams, using 2D and 3D data from other CAD systems, and improving designs by incorporating engineering principles.

Mastering Inventor 2011 begins with an overview of Inventor design concepts and application before exploring all aspects of part design, including sketching, basic and advanced modeling techniques, working with sheet metal, and part editing. The book then looks at assemblies and subassemblies, explaining real-world workflows and offering extensive detail on working with large assemblies.

Weldment design is detailed next before the reader is introduced to the functional design using Design Accelerators and Design Calculators. The detailed documentation chapter then covers everything from presentation files to simple animations to documentation for exploded views, sheet metal flat patterns, and more. The following chapters explore crucial productivity-boosting tools, data exchange, the Frame Generator, and the Inventor Studio visualization tools. Finally, the book explores Inventor Professional's dynamic simulation and stress analysis features as well as the routed systems features (piping, tubing, cabling, and harnesses).

Mastering Inventor's detailed discussions are reinforced with step-by-step tutorials, and readers can compare their work to the downloadable before-and-after tutorial files. It also features content to help readers pass the Inventor 2011 Certified Associate and Certified Professional exams and will feature instructor support materials appropriate for use in both the training and higher education channels. Mastering Inventor is the ultimate resource for those who want to quickly become proficient with Autodesk's 3D manufacturing software and prepare for the Inventor certification exams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value, very useful, a lot of good information here., August 21, 2010
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Inventor LT 2011 (Paperback)
I used SolidWorks for several years, and switched to Inventor due to a job change a while back. For the most part I was able to make the switch and find my way around, but decided that I'd get a couple of Inventor reference books to help out.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the amount of useful information in this book. I thought I'd pick up a couple of things here and there, but it seems that I learn a new method or tip on each topic. I've even gone back and done some of the more basic beginner tutorials and have picked up some tricks from those. One thing I find interesting about the style of this book is that there are often several tools demonstrated in a single tutorial. For instance I just finished a loft tutorial that covered a number of surfacing tools as well.

There is a lot of information in this book, and I haven't gotten to it all, but I feel very good about having this on my desk when I need it. I think this one has something for everyone from new users to seasoned pros. Glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book series for Autodesk Inventor, December 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Inventor LT 2011 (Paperback)
I have received the previous two books in this series as part of few modeling classes prior to purchasing this one from Amazon. The Mastering Autodesk Inventor series of books is by far the best ever written.

Having had the pleasure of taking a few classes in advanced modeling that main author Curtis Waguespack has taught. I know Im going to get the very best information possible. I continue to learn new little tricks and different ways of doing things every day. This series of books along with my machineries Handbook are always within reach.

This book would be the extremely helpful to everyone from beginner to advanced power users.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Inventor LT 2011, March 9, 2011

Not for Beginners. Assumes a knowledge of solids modeling. Detailed tutorials - some are very hard to follow.
Could use many more illustrations as an aid to locating commands and menus.
Authors are very competent. Tutorials work if you follow very closely the many numbered steps.
Some later chapters have few or no tutorials, only lists of steps which is not very useful.
Using as college textbook in advanced CAD class with students who have had previous CAD experience.
10 out of 14 are making progress. Several have trouble with the tutorial format and instruction.
Teacher and students have learned a lot. Good reference when you have to go back to review commands.
