A verbose tome that scratches the surface,
By
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Revit Building (Paperback)
Compared to the online help, this book reviews favorably. But Revit is a deep program, and to really use Revit efficiently and fully takes more than an "intermediate" book will offer, which the Aubin text admits to being. I say the text is verbose because, for instance, it always refers to Revit as "AutoDesk Revit Building", which gets very tiring. The book introduces Revit by designing two projects, which is nice, but a lot of the useful information is hidden in little sidebar tips, which makes using the book as a reference (for instance, as a command reference) difficult.

Overall a terrific book - especially the chapter on Families. I recommend this book along with "Introducing and Implementing Autodesk Revit Building," (by L.C. Fox & J.J Balding) as a relatively thorough self-training course.

I purchased this book because of the favorable reviews I read from this site. I wasn't dissapointed...this book delivered. I just recently got hired by a major architectural firm that uses Autodesk Revit Building. My background is Autocad ADT 2006 and have no idea at all what Revit is all about. Two weeks prior to my start with this new firm, I bought this book and diligently went through all of Mr. Aubin's tutorials every night. Now, two weeks into this new company, I am even, if not more advanced, with all their employees (they took the transition to Revit ten months ago)! On a few occasions, I had some questions pertaining to the book and Mr. Aubin had graciously replied promptly to these inquiries by email. If you're not yet using Revit, then you're missing a lot. This is the future of CAD. And if you decide to switch, this book is a must! Thanks for a great book Paul!

Very Good,

This book does a good job of teaching you how to do specific things in Revit. However, some of the techniques it teaches are a little too specific to the Sample Files that it uses to teach the techniques. But still does a very good job.

One of the best Revit books,
By
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Revit Building (Paperback)
This book gives explanations for everything and doesn't leave you asking questions. It also has a step-by-step guide to constructing a building from start to finish using Revit. This book is full of insights you won't find in any other book. Paul Aubin is a great teacher. The other good book is "Introduction to Autodesk Revit" by John Stine. Some people think you need to take expensive classes to learn Revit, but with books like these why waste the money. I admit the first several weeks with Revit was overwhelming for me, but it didn't take that long before i got it under control and i'm half way there and i'm having so much fun learning it. Everything will be built using Revit in the very near future and now is the time to get in on the ground floor. Many thanks to you Paul Aubin.

If you need to learn or support those who are learning Revit Building, you can not afford to miss this book. Paul has a way with his writing that lets you get right to what you want to do. Whether you want to learn the basics or dive deep into advanced material Paul has it all. I've read other authors of autodesk products and felt shortchanged compared to Paul's indepth and easy to read methods. Do yourself a favor, buy this book and you will see that it will pay for itself many times over.

As Revit is a totally new/ different concept to Autocad and it requires a bit of effort to grasp, this book is a valuable resource and it will prepare you well for the fast approaching BIM. I have tried Triforma from Bentley before and I hated it, most intellectual wankers use it or rather abuse it and use it senselessly...I have fallen in love with Revit and this book certainly helped me to understand Revit's incredible power...fully recomended reading...jisco- architect, Melbourne, Australia

Slow to learn,
This review is from: Mastering Autodesk Revit Building (Paperback)
Needs simple illustrations not long descriptions. You can not quickly learn
you must go through long excercises instead of short descriptions with drawing. The problem is I have not seen anything different for Revit or Architectural Desktop.

Using this book as a guide saved my architectural office thousands of dollars. It convinced us that we'd be making a major mistake by switching from our present CAD system using DataCAD to Revit BIM. It would have been problematic, if not disastrous. Time after time, on simple to implement processes, Revit would lock up temporarily or crash completely. Minor, but somewhat unusual designs took far longer to work through than we ever spent using conventional descriptive models. Had we not had this guide, we'd have been led to believe that it was our fault. This was an excellent investment that was used to assist us in our evaluation of no better than a mediocre product.

MR. PAUL AUBIN, AS USUAL, WRITES THE BEST BOOKS FOR ADT AND REVIT.
I'VE READ OTHER BOOKS; WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. HIS BOOK IS WRITTEN FROM AN ARCHITECT'S PROSPECTIVE, NOT BY A PROGRAMMER. HE IS A GENIUS,AFTER ONLY 3 WEEKS I CAN DRAW AND EDIT IN 3D. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS BOOK. |
