Editorial Reviews

Review

"Danesh, Motlagh, and Camden have written a fine book suitable for both novice and expert ColdFusion developers." -- ColdFusion Developer's Journal, February 2002

From the Publisher

The growth in the ColdFusion market the last two years has been remarkable. The package offers the best combination of power and ease-of-use for developing interactive Web application that connect to databases. Mastering ColdFusion 5 allows beginners to get up and running, then focuses on strong coverage of intermediate to advanced skills. It builds on the strong foundation of its predecessor, the best-selling Mastering ColdFusion 4.5, by offering complete coverage of ColdFusion's new features: queries of queries, user-defined functions, charting and graphing, and more.

The companion CD is one of the strongest on the market, with evaluation copies of ColdFusion for multiple platforms, all the sample code from the book, and custom tags that users can implement in their own applications. It is also the only CD to include a fully searchable electronic edition of the book itself, making it easier for readers to find exactly what they need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good effort., November 24, 2001

I relied on Mastering ColdFusion 4.5 to learn what I needed to know about CF. The new edition covers the new features in depth and has good examples throughout.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid information, but littered with many typos, May 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mastering ColdFusion 5 (Paperback)
Too many typographic errors for a book of this quality. Many examples appear to have been cut and pasted from a previous listing, then never modified so that code is correct.
One of the serious drawbacks of ColdFusion is it's simplicity and the ability to have new developers coding within a short time. These new developers will struggle with the errors, or worse yet, generate inefficient code.
Having used ColdFusion for a number of years, we simply deserve better.

4.0 out of 5 stars From a beginers point of view, January 28, 2002
By
P Szelesi (Rochdale, Lancashire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mastering ColdFusion 5 (Paperback)
As a beginner this book taught me the essentials of what I needed to know to start creating Coldfusion code almost on the first page. I created the templates they described and this gave me the hunger to read the inevitable 'lets sit down for the boring bit' chat. Totally changed my company's intranet and created good database driven pages which made addition and deletion of data easier. Everything I needed was contained in this book and now have the confidence I needed with Coldfusion code. The refence area at the back makes you keep the book at hand with both CF and SQL help included.
